Characterization of South African Bentonite and Kaolin Clays

open access: yesSustainability, 2023
The present study aimed to investigate the mineralogical and morphological properties of two South African clays, namely bentonite and kaolin. These clays are mined in specific regions of the country but have not been fully characterized in terms of ...

Prefabricated Bentonite Clay Liners

Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 1991
Abstract The development and use of prefabricated bentonite clay liners is a relatively recent development, even for a technology as young as geosynthetics. There are four currently available commercial products, each of which consists of essentially dry bentonite clay agglomerates (with or without a dry, but water soluble, adhesive) placed on a ...

Role of bentonite clays on cell growth

Chemosphere, 2016
Bentonites, naturally occurring clays, are produced industrially because of their adsorbent capacity but little is known about their effects on human health. This manuscript reports on the effect of bentonites on cell growth behaviour. Bentonites collected from India (Bent-India), Hungary (Bent-Hungary), Argentina (Bent-Argentina), and Indonesia (Bent ...

Sorption of Anthocyanins on Bentonite Clay

Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2020
Patterns of the static sorption of anthocyanins on bentonite clay are determined. It is found that the approach used for static sorption is an alternative to dynamic solid phase purification on DIAPAK C18 concentrating cartridges. A way of determining the relative sorption capacity of anthocyanins characterized by different structures on bentonite clay

Diffusion of Water in Bentonite Clay

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2013
Diffusion of water confined in sodium bentonite clay is studied using the quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) technique. Hydration of bentonite clay is characterized by several methods including X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric measurements.

Investigation and modeling of cesium(I) adsorption by Turkish clays: Bentonite, zeolite, sepiolite, and kaolinite

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress and Sustainable Energy, 2011
The cesium ion adsorption by Turkish clays, i.e., bentonite, zeolite, sepiolite, and kaolinite, was investigated as a function of Cs+ concentration, pH, time, and temperature using the Cs-137 radiotracer method.

A Prefabricated Bentonite Clay Liner

Geotextiles and Geomembranes, 1991
This paper presents manufacturing information and engineering data on a prefabricated bentonite clay liner named Claymax®. Details of the standard product that is currently available are given, along with possible new variations that are available on a site specific basis.

Hydration studies of Bentonite clay

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
Bentonite clay when hydrated increases its volume several fold to form a pliable mass. X-ray diffraction showed that as hydration increases, the crystalline peaks due to kaolinite, calcite and quartz are gradually replaced by an amorphous background while the crystalline reflections of montmorillonite remain.

Influence of Bentonite Clay in the Formation of Polypropylene / Clay Nanocomposites

Materials Science Forum, 2012
Based on recent studies this research aims to continue the studies on nanocomposites obtained by blending polypropylene (polymer matrix) and bentonite clays of Paraíba, with emphasis on issues related to the surface modification of clays (charges), with the aim of stimulating the compatibility between the inorganic and organic components, since after ...

Sorption and desorption of silver ions by bentonite clays

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2017
Anthropogenic activities have increased the concentration of metal species in the environment. The toxicity of silver ions to aquatic and terrestrial organisms has required monitoring by analytical methods, besides actions to promote its control as pollutant.
