Hydrocyclone performance for bentonite clay purification

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2020
Abstract This work evaluates the performance of commercial hydrocyclone for removing contaminant larger particles (silt fraction) in bentonite clays, which improves its commercial value. A steady-state Eulerian–Eulerian 14-phases CFD model was verified with experimental data.

Dielectric spectroscopy of bound water in the bentonitic clay

2007 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2007
In this paper, the dielectric spectra of moist bentonitic clay in the range of frequencies from 0.2 GHz to 15 GHz and temperatures from -30degC to +25degC have been obtained. Based on these results, a dielectric model of frozen clay soil was proposed which allows for predicting complex dielectric permittivity as a function of frequency and temperature.

Industrial clays: kaolin (china clay), ball clay and bentonite

1995
Kaolin (or china clay), ball clay and bentonite are the dominant ‘industrial clays’, and are mined for a wide variety of uses (Table 3.1), which exploit the special properties of each of the three clay types: Kaolin (china clay) — is chemically inert and can be prepared as a white powder specified (in part) according to its whiteness and ...

Bentonites - Clays for Molecular Engineering

Elements, 2009
Smectites are the main components of bentonites; their characteristics define the remarkable range for their uses in industry and technology. Their application depends on their fundamental properties, namely, their atomic structure with a rather flexible crystal lattice, their variable chemical composition, their particle size, and their morphology ...

The Use of Bentonite Clays in Water Treatment

Journal AWWA, 1938
In an earlier publication the senior author (1) discussed the broader aspects of the use of bentonite as a coagulant in water treatment, showing that under easily controlled conditions a suspension of this highly colloidal clay added to a turbid water flocculates readily to form an adsorbent precipitate that effectually removes the original silt ...

Characterization of bentonitic clays and their use as adsorbent

Desalination, 2005
Bentonite clay minerals belonging to the smectite group have a wide range of chemical and industrial uses. The structure and chemical composition, exchangeable ion type and small crystal size of smectite are responsible for several properties, including a large chemically active surface area, a high cation exchange capacity and inter-lamellar surface ...

Structural Investigations on Processed Bentonite Clays

Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society, 1982
Two bentonite samples from Gujarat have been investigated for elucidation of their structures and constituents. Physico-chemical analyses and infra-red, X-ray and thermal studies have been carried out, on raw as well as acid treated clay samples, to understand the structural changes on acid treatment of clays. Different degrees of swelling shown by the

Application of Bentonite Clay for Human Use

2017
Clay minerals can be beneficial to human health by serving as active principles or excipients in pharmaceutical preparations, in spas, and in beauty therapy medicine. Since prehistoric times, man used the clay in nutrition and therapeutic purposes. The use of medicinal earths in Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt has also been proven.

The Pumping of Bentonite Clays

1979
This study describes the results of experiments on the pumping of non-Newtonian bentonite clay slurries. The data were obtained from smooth tubes having internal diameters of 0.60 cm, 1.27 cm and 1.74 cm, for aqueous suspension concentrations of 1.96, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0% by weight. The flow Reynolds numbers varied to a maximum of about 6000.

Bentonite clay in aflatoxin mitigation

Archives of Microbiology
Mycotoxins, which are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi, contaminate a wide range of food and feed items and represent significant health concerns to both humans and animals. The most potent and widespread of these are aflatoxins (AFs), particularly Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), which is commonly found in peanuts, cottonseed, spices, animal feed ...
