Azithromycin versus penicillin G benzathine for early syphilis
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2012Syphilis is a complex systemic disease caused by a spirochete, Treponema pallidum. The World Health Organization estimates that at least 12 million people worldwide are currently infected with syphilis. In this review we compared two current standards of treatment for early syphilis, benzathine benzylpenicillin (penicillin G) and azithromycin. To ...

IMPROVED LOCAL TOLERANCE TO BENZATHINE PENICILLIN G
Pediatrics, 1958Four types of penicillin for intramuscular injection were compared for incidence of local reaction: (1) suspension of benzathine penicillin G, 600,000 units in 1 ml; (2) benzathine penicillin G, 600,000 units, with 5 mg of prednisolone, in 1 ml; (3) benzathine penicillin G, 600,000 units, plus aqueous procaine penicillin, 600,000 units, in 2 ml; and (4)

REACTIONS FROM MULTIPLE INJECTIONS OF BENZATHINE PENICILLIN G
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1957A comparison was made between two dosage plans for the intramuscular administration of benzathine penicillin G as prophylaxis against rheumatic fever, nephritis, and streptococcic infections in the armed forces. One group of 1,567 men received 600,000 units every four weeks; the other group, of 1,708 men, received 900,000 units every six weeks.

Colloidal carriers for benzathine penicillin G: Nanoemulsions and nanocapsules
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2000The main purpose of this work is to formulate benzathine penicillin G nanoemulsion and nanocapsules, to evaluate their physicochemical and stabilising characteristics, and to determine their antimicrobial activity and penicillin in vitro release kinetics. Nanoemulsions were produced by the spontaneous emulsification approach and nanocapsules of poly (D,

Penicillin Concentrations in Serum Following Weekly Injections of Benzathine Penicillin G
Chemotherapy, 1986Twelve patients with syphilis were treated weekly with injections of 1.44 g (2.4 X 10(6) IU) of benzathine penicillin G for up to 3 weeks. Almost daily, serum penicillin concentrations were measured by a sensitive microbiological agar cup method. An individual and interindividual variation was found.

Relapse of Secondary Syphilis After Benzathine Penicillin G
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 2004It is difficult to distinguish between relapse and reinfection in patients who develop a second episode of syphilis after treatment. The goal of this study was to use molecular methods to distinguish between relapse and reinfection in a patient with recurrent secondary syphilis.Treponema pallidum tprK sequences were amplified from cerebrospinal fluid ...

BENZATHINE PENICILLIN G IN THE PREVENTION OF STREPTOCOCCIC INFECTIONS
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1957The effectiveness of benzathine penicillin G in preventing streptococcic pharyngitis was determined during an epidemic of this disease among military personnel at an air force base. A single intramuscular injection was given to each of 741 men, representing about 10 % of the exposed population.

Concentrations of penicillin were measured in serum samples of 26 children who received benzathine penicillin G (BPG) alone or in combination with procaine penicillin (PBPG). Both preparations were well absorbed; peak concentrations of penicillin after PBPG administration were 25-fold larger than those after BPG. One third and one half of serum samples

Cerebrospinal fluid levels of benzathine penicillin G in the neonate
The Journal of Pediatrics, 1977T n E I N C ! D E N C E of congenital syphili s has increased in recent years, 1 prompting renewed interest in the treatment of this entity. One recommended form of therapy is benzathine penicillin G, 100,000 units per kilogram of body weight given in a single intramuscular injection.
