Antibody stimulation of benzo(a)pyrene carcinogenesis

Cancer Letters, 1978
Benzo(a)pyrene (BP) was conjugated to horse serum albumin (HSA) and then attached to aldehyde fixed human erythrocytes. These cells were used in a passive hemagglutination test to measure BP antibody. BP antibodies were found to be induced in Swiss mice injected with tumorigenic doses of BP.

Free radicals derived from benzo[a]pyrene

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1976
Abstract At least four different free radicals can be formed from benzo[a]pyrene under different reaction conditions, namely the 6-oxybenzo[a]pyrene radical, the benzo[a]pyrene anion and cation radicals and a radical from heated benzo[a]pyrene. The formation and esr spectra of these radicals have been studied with the aim of clarifying the nature of ...

Benzo(a)pyrene in Brazilian vegetable oils

Food Additives and Contaminants, 1996
Samples of vegetable oils on the Brazilian market including rape seed, corn, soybean, sunflower, rice, palm and garlic were analysed for benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P). The analytical method involved liquid-liquid extraction, clean-up on silica gel column and determination by high performance liquid chromatography using fluorescence detection.

Transplacental action of benzo(a)pyrene and pyrene

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1977
The transplacental and direct action of benzo(a)pyrene (BP) on mice of strains A and C57BL and of their progeny was studied. BP was found to represent a carcinogenic risk for the progeny. The greatest carcinogenic effect in progeny of strain A mice was exhibited by BP in a dose of 6 mg: The frequency of development of lung tumors was 76.8% compared ...

Benzo(A)Pyrene and Benzo(A)Pyrene-Induced Protein Adducts in Hair as Biomarkers of Toxic Benzo(A)Pyrene Exposures

2014
Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. While there are more than 4,000 chemicals found in tobacco smoke, the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been clearly demonstrated to contribute to smoking-related cancers.

Benzo(a)pyrene diolepoxide-haemoglobin and albumin adducts at low levels of benzo(a)pyrene exposure

Biomarkers, 2000
A biomonitoring study was conducted to simultaneously measure individual benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) exposure in 50 office employees, not occupationally exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), using personal samplers and the formation of (+) r-7, t-8-dihyroxy-t-9,t-10-epoxy-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo(a)pyrene (BPDE) adducts to haemoglobin (BPDE-Hb ...

Radioimmunoassay for benzo[a]pyrene.

Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1978
A benzo[a]pyrene (BP)-bovine serum albumin conjugate was synthesized and used to immunize 2.5- to 3.0-kg New Zealand White rabbits. The resulting antisera to BP bound trace amounts of [3H] (55 pg; 6,000 counts/min). A radioimmunoassay (RIA) to BP was developed by the antiserum first being titered with the [3H]BP and then a standard curve being ...

Tumorigenesis by Benzo(a)pyrene Administered Intracolonically

Oncology, 1980
Benzo(a)pyrene (BP) was administered to Swiss mice in 1 and 10 weekly intracolonic instillations at 200 microgram/g body weight. The single administration of BP induced a statistically significant incidence of malignant lymphomas and tumors of the forestomach, while its repeated instillation, evoked, in addition to these two tumor types, neoplasms in ...
