Benzoic acid inZ. bailii decreases cell yield and increases sugar uptake rate in a similar way as inS. cerevisiae. The final catabolic destiny of pyruvate, however, is a function of the respiratory capacity of each strain. On the other hand, benzoic acid inhibits oxidative metabolism inZ. bailii.
