N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed intramolecular benzoin condensation-oxidation.

Organic and biomolecular chemistry, 2021
NHC-Catalyzed intramolecular benzoin condensation-oxidation is developed for the expedient synthesis of diverse cyclic 1,2-diketones incorporated in dibenzo-fused seven-membered heterocycles in good to excellent yields, under ambient conditions.

Asymmetric Anisoin Synthesis Involving Benzoin Condensation Followed by Deracemization

, 2021
The highly enantioselective synthesis of p-anisoin was achieved via the benzoin condensation of a prochiral p-anisaldehyde using achiral NHC catalysts such as vitamin B1.

Decomposition of tosylhydrazones of benzoin, benzoin acetate, and benzoin benzoate with alkali and metal complex hydrides

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1996
Treatment of tosylhydrazones of benzoin, benzoin acetate, and benzoin benzoate with alkali under protic and aprotic conditions yielded diphenyl acetylene together with desoxybenzoin. An increase in leaving aptitude of the adjacent group enhanced the formation of diphenyl acetylene.

Dynamic Kinetic Resolution Enabled by Intramolecular Benzoin Reaction: Synthetic Applications and Mechanistic Insights

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2016
The highly enantio-, diastereo-, and regioselective dynamic kinetic resolution of β-ketoesters and 1,3-diketones was achieved via a chiral N-heterocyclic carbene catalyzed intramolecular cross-benzoin reaction.

Enantioselective N-heterocyclic carbene-catalysed intermolecular crossed benzoin condensations: improved catalyst design and the role of in situ racemisation.

Organic and biomolecular chemistry, 2020
The enantioselective intermolecular crossed-benzoin condensation mediated by novel chiral N-heterocyclic carbenes derived from pyroglutamic acid has been investigated. A small library of chiral triazolium ions were synthesised.

Benzoin 4-ethylthiosemicarbazone

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2005
In the title compound, 2-hydroxy-1,2-diphenylethanone 4-ethylthiosemicarbazone, C17H19N3OS, the thiosemicarbazone moiety is planar and has an E configuration. The planar phenyl rings make dihedral angles of 82.34 (8) and 8.07 (17) degrees with the plane of the thiosemicarbazone moiety. The crystal structure contains two intramolecular (N-H...O and N-H..

tBuOK/TMSOK‐Mediated “Alkyl Halide to Alkyl Free Radical” Transformation for Transition‐Metal‐Free Benzoin α‐C—H Alkylation

Chinese journal of chemistry
The alkali tert‐butoxide (tBuOK or tBuONa) mediated generation of aryl free radical from aryl iodide remarks a milestone discovery in the free radical chemistry. However, the equivalent “alkyl halide to alkyl free radical” transformation has not yet been

Theoretical Study of Diastereoselective NHC-Catalyzed Cross-Benzoin Reactions between Furfural and N-Boc-Protected α-Amino Aldehydes.

Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
The mechanism and origins of syn- and anti-selectivity of cross-benzoin reactions between furfural and α amino aldehydes, catalyzed by a triazolium-based NHC, were investigated using density functional theory calculations.
