Benzyladenine and derivatives-their significance and interconversion in plants
Plant Growth Regulation, 1996Recently benzyladenine has been isolated as a natural cytokinin from a number of plants. The natural occurrence of this cytokinin will change the attitude with which physiologists view this hormone. This review attempts to put into context what is known about this cytokinin and its derivatives and to compare and contrast its metabolism and the function

Effects of benzyladenine on cotyledon metabolism and growth of peas
Planta, 1968Application of benzyladenine to dry pea seed delayed the production of amylase and the concomitant breakdown of starch. The utilization of nitrogenous reserve food material was also delayed. Shoot growth was correlated with breakdown of reserve food.Benzyladenine given to one of the cotyledons did not affect the senescence of the other.

Reduction of paraquat toxicity in maize leaves by benzyladenine
The protective effect of a cytokinin benzyladenine (BA), against toxicity of paraquat (PQ), a widely used herbicide and a well-known oxidative stress inducer, was investigated in the leaves of maize. Maize leaves have been pretreated with BA at concentrations of 1, 10 and 100 microM and afterwards treated with PQ.

The effects of benzyladenine on the growth and development of peas
Planta, 1967Benzyladenine was applied to the seed of tall and dwarf pea varieties. The principal effects, all of which were proportional to concentration of benzyladenine were: 1. retardation of cotyledon senescence, 2. inhibition of overall root and shoot growth, 3. induction of branching, resulting in redistribution of shoot fresh weight.

BENZYLADENINE AND THIDIAZURON POSTHARVEST TREATMENTS FOR PRESERVING CUT LILY FLOWERS
The vase life of cut lilies stored for a long time or transported over long distances, may be reduced. Typical postharvest problems are early tepal wilting and abscission and leaf yellowing. Following harvest, chlorophyll losses are induced by the lack of endogenous cytokinins, which are biosynthesized in roots.

In Spathiphyllum floribundum 'Petite', which was cultured on medium containing benzyladenine (BA), uptake of this cytokinin and its conversion to 9-beta-D-ribofuranosyl-benzyladenine (9R-BA) or 9-beta-glucopyranosyl-benzyladenine (9G-BA) was monitored ...

Benzyladenine ribosylglucoside: A metabolite of benzyladenine in Gerbera jamesonii
Phytochemistry, 1991Abstract 6-benzylamino-9-(glucosylribosyl)purine was identified as the major metabolite of 6-benzylaminopurine in petioles plus apices and callus of 24-day-old shoot cultures of Gerbera jamesonii .

The metabolism of a kinin, benzyladenine
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Specialized Section on Nucleic Acids and Related Subjects, 1962The kinin, 6-benzylaminopurine (benzyladenine), is converted to a number of low-molecular-weight materials by senescing leaves of Xanthium pensylvanicum Wall. (cocklebur). A major product is the riboside, benzyladenosine, which has been identified by comparison of its properties with those of authentic benzyladenosine, enzymically synthesized by E ...

Benzyladenine and the vase life of tropical ornamentals
Postharvest Biology and Technology, 2001Abstract The vase life of anthurium (Anthurium andraeanum), Heliconia (Heliconia psittacorum cv. ‘Andromeda’, H. chartacea cv. ‘Sexy Pink’), red and pink ginger inflorescence (Alpinia purpurata) was increased by benzyladenine (BA, 100 mg L−1), applied as a dip or as a spray.
