Reaction of pig plasma benzylamine oxidase with betaaminopropionitrile

Agents and Actions, 1985
Beta-aminopropionitrile (BAPN) is an inhibitor of pig plasma benzylamine oxidase. BAPN is oxidized by benzylamine oxidase. Inhibition develops in a time-dependent fashion upon incubation of BAPN with the enzyme in the absence of substrate. The product of oxidation of BAPN by benzylamine oxidase, cyanacetaldehyde, was identified and prepared by ...

Development of benzylamine oxidase and monoamine oxidase A and B in man

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1980
Abstract We describe the widespread distribution of the enzymes benzylamine oxidase (BzAO) and monoamine oxidase A and B (MAO A, MAO B) in human tissues at three stages of development: fetal, neonatal and adult. Relatively low activity of each is present in fetal tissues, but the specific activities of BzAO and MAO B in fetal liver are similar to ...

A benzylamine oxidase distinct from monoamine oxidase B—Widespread distribution in man and rat

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1978
Abstract Benzylamine oxidase (BzAO) and monoamine oxidase type B(MAO-B) both selectively catalyse the oxidative deamination of benzylamine (Bz). We define the former as that benzylamine-metabolizing activity insensitive to 4 × 10 −4 M deprenyl, a concentration which totally inhibits all forms of MAO. Although both enzymes are widespread in human and

Nature of the organic cofactor of pig plasma benzylamine oxidase

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1990
The identification of the organic cofactor of pig plasma benzylamine oxidase is described. Acid hydrolysis of the enzyme in argon in the presence of phenylhydrazine (6 h at 115 degrees C in 0.027 M sulphuric acid) allowed the isolation of an adduct which was purified by HPLC and identified as phenylhydrazone of pyridoxal by spectrophotometry ...

Purification of pig heart benzylamine oxidase.

International journal of molecular medicine, 1998
A benzylamine oxidase (E.C. 1.4.3.6) has been purified from pig heart. Western blot analysis showed that the enzyme cross-reacts with a polyclonal antibody raised against homogeneous, crystalline pig plasma benzylamine oxidase (BAO). A subunit molecular mass of 97 kDa obtained by SDS electrophoresis is identical to the plasma enzyme.

Stereochemistry of Benzylamine Oxidation by Copper Amine Oxidases

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1995
Copper amine oxidases (EC 1.4.3.6) exhibit stereochemical heterogeneity in their reaction specificities. Enzymes isolated from different sources have previously been shown to catalyze the deamination of tyramine and dopamine with abstraction of the pro-R hydrogen at C-1, the pro-S hydrogen, and net nonstereo-specific protein abstraction.

Benzylamine oxidase in normal and atherosclerotic human aortae

Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 1983
Assays of serum benzylamine oxidase (BzAO) have led some workers to postulate a relationship between elevated BzAO activity and diseases characterized by proliferating connective tissue. The present study was designed to determine whether BzAO activity of a cellular tissue is also affected.

The Kinetics of Reoxidation of Reduced Benzylamine Oxidase

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1977
The mechanism of reoxidation of reduced benzylamine oxidase has been investigated at different pH between 6 and 10 by steady‐state and transient‐state kinetic methods. The reoxidation process involves minimally a second‐order interaction between reduced enzyme and oxygen leading to the formation of a spectrally modified enzyme intermediate, and a ...
