Active-Site Titration of Pig-Plasma Benzylamine Oxidase

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1978
1. Titration of benzylamine oxidase with benzylamine under anaerobic conditions shows that full reduction of the enzymic 470-nm chromophore is obtained on the addition of one mole of substrate per mole of enzyme. Concomitantly, one mole of benzaldehyde per mole of enzyme is produced. 2.

Stereospecific deamination of benzylamine catalyzed by different amine oxidases

International Journal of Biochemistry, 1988
1. Stereospecific deuterated benzylamine enantiomers, R(alpha-2H1)-and S(alpha-2H1)-benzylamine, were synthesized by a combined chemical and enzymatic method. 2. The retention or cleavage of the deuterium atom during deamination of benzylamine catalyzed by amine oxidases from different sources was assessed by a GC-MS procedure and confirmed by HPLC ...

Plasma Benzylamine Oxidase Activity in Cerebrovascular Disease

European Neurology, 1990
The plasma benzylamine oxidase level (BzAO) was determined in 60 patients with different types of acute cerebrovascular disease, such as cerebral bleeding, subarachnoid bleeding and cerebral infarction. Patients with cerebral infarction included both apoplectic and multiple types.

Pig plasma benzylamine oxidase (histaminase): Kinetic studies

Pharmacological Research Communications, 1972
Summary Studies have been carried out on the effect of pH on apparent Michaelis constants and maximal reaction rates of pig plasma benzylamine oxidase usingbenzylamine as substrate. The ionizing groups which affect both the affinity constant of the enzyme and the maximal reaction rate have been characterized.

Decreased plasma benzylamine oxidase in a subgroup of schizophrenia

Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 1989
ABSTRACT Plasma benzylamine oxidase (BzAO) activity was analysed in a group of 40 schizophrenic patients and compared with that of healthy controls. Although plasma BzAO was significantly decreased in schizophrenics as a whole, when patients were divided into type I (favourable course) and type II (poor course) it was found that the reduced BzAO ...

Monomers, polymers, copolymers, resins, and coated silicas containing benzylamine residues planned as artificial substrates of benzylamine oxidase

Journal of Polymer Science Part A: Polymer Chemistry, 1999
The new monomers 3-(3-methacryloxypropoxy)benzylamine and 4-(3-methacryloxypropoxy)benzylamine in the form of hydrochlorides have been synthesized and radically copolymerized under various conditions with comonomers of different hydrophilicity, including N-acryloylmorpholine, N-acryloylpyrrolidine, N,N-dimethylacrylamide, and N-vinylbenzoylmorpholine ...

[Soluble benzylamine oxidase from aorta].

Biokhimiia (Moscow, Russia), 1981
A new method for purification of soluble benzylamine oxidase from bovine aorta with specific activity of more than 100 units is described. The optical and magnetic properties of the enzyme have been studied. The enzyme contains type II copper, the environment of which is sensitive to pH, substrate, inhibitors and chelators. An addition of substrate and

Inactivation of mitochondrial monoamine oxidase B by methylthio-substituted benzylamines

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2003
Mitochondrial monoamine oxidase was inactivated by o-mercaptobenzylamine (1) and o- (2) and p-methylthiobenzylamine (5). Experiments were carried out to provide evidence for possible mechanisms of inactivation. The corresponding o- (3) and p-hydroxybenzylamine (4) are not inactivators.

Lysyloxidase and benzylamine oxidase in pig aorta.

The Italian journal of biochemistry, 1981
Three enzymes were isolated from pig aorta: a benzylamine oxidase differing from the plasma type, and two different types of lysyloxidase. Some properties of the two types of lysyloxidase are described. The three enzymes were inhibited by cupric copper chelating agents and by carbonyl reagents.

Spermine oxidase and benzylamine oxidase. Distribution, development and substrate specificity

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1962
A survey has been made of the distribution of the two types of amine oxidase that occur in mammalian blood plasma. Spermine oxidase has been found in all ruminants (Ruminantia and Tylopoda) examined, and also in the hippopotamus and two members of the order Hyracoidea.
