An integrated underwater soundscape analysis in the Bering Strait region.
Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2021Rapid changes in the Arctic from shifting climate and human use patterns are affecting previously reported distributions and movements of marine mammals. The underwater soundscape, a key component of marine mammal habitats, is also changing.

Governing the Bering Strait Region
2020Drawing on the chapters dealing with the ecological, economic, and sociocultural systems of the Bering Strait Region, this chapter identifies key issues of governance arising in the region and makes use of our approach to informed decisionmaking for sustainability to guide thinking about options for addressing these issues.

Bering Strait transports from satellite altimetry
Journal of Marine Research, 2005TOPEX/POSEIDON altimetry data are used to compute sea level slopes across the Bering Strait and associated geostrophic transport anomalies through the strait during ice-free periods from 1992 to 2002. The satellite turning latitude near 66N is just north of the strait, allowing us to use data from seven nearly zonal altimeter tracks close to the strait

Extended Measurements in Bering Strait
2006Abstract : We completed seven cruises in Bering Strait and the Chukchi Sea during 1999-2005. Both the shipborne measurements and nearly continuous moored data from 1990-2005 have been processed and archived. In six refereed papers and eleven presentations at national and international meetings, we have quantified the large variability found in the ...

Economies of the Bering Strait Region
2020Historically, extreme remoteness and cold have left the Bering Strait region sparsely populated and economically undeveloped. Costs are very high and infrastructure is minimal. Economies are undeveloped, and based primarily on mining and government. Population densities are very low.

AbstractMaximum glaciation in eastern Siberia, the final glaciation, the mountainous area, and the land area exposed by moderate lowerings of sea level are plotted on a map to illustrate that two routes from northeast Asia to northwest North America were available for human movements.

Ecosystems of the Bering Strait Region
2020The Bering Strait Region is an important gateway linking the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic. Changes in this region include impacts from climate change with rapid rates of sea ice loss, coastal erosion and ocean acidification. As a seasonally ice-covered region, the dynamic environment supports areas of rich marine biodiversity including hotspots in ...
