Age-related differences in functional network segregation in the context of sex and reproductive stage. [PDF]

open access: yesHum Brain Mapp, 2023
Our results mirror findings from previous work indicating that functional network segregation is lower with increasing age. When analyzing associations between network segregation and age with respect to biological sex, we find qualitative differences between females and males.

Performance of Relative Exchangeable Copper for the Diagnosis of Wilson Disease in Acute Liver Failure. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Inherit Metab Dis
ABSTRACT Acute liver failure (ALF) can be one of the manifestations of Wilson disease (WD), and due to its severity, prompt diagnosis is essential. A ratio > 15% of the exchangeable copper to total serum copper, known as relative exchangeable copper (REC), has been shown to have a 100% sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of WD but this has ...

Frequency Coding of Multisensory Integration in the Local Field Potentials of the Medial Pulvinar. [PDF]

open access: yesEur J Neurosci
ABSTRACT The pulvinar is a posterior thalamic nucleus, with a heterogeneous anatomo‐functional organization. It is divided into four parts, including the medial pulvinar, which is densely connected with primary unisensory and multisensory cortical regions, and subcortical structures, including the superior colliculus.

Neural representations of statistical and rule-based predictions in Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. [PDF]

open access: yesHum Brain Mapp
The formation of habits is a long‐discussed topic in GTS. Through the decoding of neurophysiological data, we show that increased habit formation in GTS is due to increased statistical but not rule‐based learning mechanisms in fronto‐parietal cortices.

Copper toxicosis in Bedlington terriers is associated with multiple independent genetic variants

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 193, Issue 4, 19 August–2 September 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Bedlington terrier copper toxicosis (CT) is due to a homozygous exon deletion in COMMD1. CT also occurs in Bedlingtons lacking this deletion. An association with two ABCA12 single nuceotide polymorphism (SNP) splice variants was reported.

SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and venous thromboembolism after surgery: an international prospective cohort study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 77, Issue 1, Page 28-39, January 2022., 2022
Summary SARS‐CoV‐2 has been associated with an increased rate of venous thromboembolism in critically ill patients. Since surgical patients are already at higher risk of venous thromboembolism than general populations, this study aimed to determine if patients with peri‐operative or prior SARS‐CoV‐2 were at further increased risk of venous ...

Other radical geographies: Tropicality and decolonisation in 20th‐century French geography

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, Volume 46, Issue 3, Page 540-554, September 2021., 2021
This paper analyses the anticolonialist commitment of a group of French geographers who variously criticised French colonialism or directly contributed to decolonisation movements in Africa in the central decades of the 20th century. Based on the analysis of works and unpublished archives of these scholars and activists, I argue that their work can be ...

Timing of surgery following SARS‐CoV‐2 infection: an international prospective cohort study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 76, Issue 6, Page 748-758, June 2021., 2021
Summary Peri‐operative SARS‐CoV‐2 infection increases postoperative mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal duration of planned delay before surgery in patients who have had SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. This international, multicentre, prospective cohort study included patients undergoing elective or emergency surgery during October 2020.
