Beryllium in turnoff stars of NGC6397: early Galaxy spallation, cosmochronology and cluster formation

open access: yes, 2004
We present the first detection of beryllium in two turnoff stars of the old, metal-poor globular cluster NGC 6397. The beryllium lines are clearly detected and we determine a mean beryllium abundance of log(Be/H)=-12.35 +/- 0.2.

10Be/9Be Ratios Reveal Marine Authigenic Clay Formation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
As reverse weathering has been shown to impact long‐term changes in atmospheric CO2 levels, it is crucial to develop quantitative tools to reconstruct marine authigenic clay formation.

Assessment of the Interatomic Potentials of Beryllium for Mechanical Properties

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
Beryllium finds widespread applications in nuclear energy, where it is required to service under extreme conditions, including high-dose and high-dose rate radiation with constant bombardments of energetic particles leading to various kinds of defects ...

Beryllium fluoride film protects beryllium against corrosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Film of beryllium fluoride protects beryllium against corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in water containing chloride ion concentrations. The film is formed by exposing the beryllium to fluorine gas at 535 degrees C or higher and makes beryllium ...

High Performance X-Ray Transmission Windows Based on Graphenic Carbon

open access: yes, 2015
A novel x-ray transmission window based on graphenic carbon has been developed with superior performance compared to beryllium transmission windows that are currently used in the field.

Implosion performance of subscale beryllium capsules on the NIF

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2019
Many inertial fusion designs use capsules made of beryllium, as its high mass ablation rate is advantageous. We present the first systematic experimental study of indirectly driven beryllium capsules with a cryogenic deuterium-tritium fuel layer ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Comparative Study of the Reactivity of the Tungsten Oxides WO2 and WO3 with Beryllium at Temperatures up to 1273 K

open access: yesCondensed Matter, 2019
Tungsten oxides play a pivotal role in a variety of modern technologies, e.g., switchable glasses, wastewater treatment, and modern gas sensors. Metallic tungsten is used as armor material, for example in gas turbines as well as future fusion power ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Inhibited solid propellant composition containing beryllium hydride [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
An object of this invention is to provide a composition of beryllium hydride and carboxy-terminated polybutadiene which is stable. Another object of this invention is to provide a method for inhibiting the reactivity of beryllium hydride toward carboxy ...
