Trends in marine species distribution models: a review of methodological advances and future challenges

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Correlative species distribution models (SDMs) are quantitative tools in biogeography and macroecology. Building upon the ecological niche concept, they correlate environmental covariates to species presence to model habitat suitability and predict species distributions.

From shadows to data: first robust population assessment of snow leopards in Pakistan

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
The snow leopard Panthera uncia is a flagship species of the greater Himalayan region and symbolizes the integrity of this ecological system. Within the greater Himalayas, Pakistan holds special significance as the north of the country represents a confluence of three major mountain ranges (Hindu Kush, Pamir–Karakoram, and Himalaya).

Stable Hexagonal V2B2 Monolayer as a Promising Nonprecious Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction: Insights from First‐Principles Calculations

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work discovered stable V2B2 monolayer exhibits promising HER catalytic activity via unbiased swarm‐intelligence structural search. Further doping with transition metals such as Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf significantly enhances the HER activity. Bader charge analysis reveals a linear correlation between ΔGH* and the electron gain by the hydrogen atom, which

The difficult discussion on the deactivation of implantable cardioverter devices at the end of life: a systematic review

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 733-760, April 2025.
Abstract Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) reliably prevent death due to life‐threatening arrhythmias; this may become less relevant in people with more severe heart failure who are reaching the end of life (EOL). This review aimed to explore the ICD deactivation process and identify ethical issues, especially around the initiation of ...

Empirical Best Linear Unbiased Prediction for Out of Sample Areas

open access: yes, 2005
Models for small area estimation based on a random effects specification typically assume population units in different areas are uncorrelated. However, they can be extended to account for the correlation between areas by assuming that area random effects are spatially correlated. In this paper we suggest a simple variance-covariance structure for such

A call for ethical, equitable, and effective artificial intelligence to improve care for all people with epilepsy: A roadmap. A report by the ILAE Global Advocacy Council and Big Data Commission

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract The artificial intelligence (AI) revolution is upon us. It will inevitably form a central component of epilepsy workflows and patient advocacy. Therefore, it behooves us as health care providers to ride the crest of this wave and guide its direction for the benefit of all people with epilepsy.
