PLASMA BETA-ENDORPHIN LEVELS AND CHILDHOOD INTUSSUCEPTION
Pediatric Emergency Care, 1993To determine whether childhood intestinal intussusception is associated with elevated plasma beta-endorphin levels, a series of patients was studied prospectively. Fourteen patients (age range between 3 months and 7 years) presented to two university pediatric emergency departments in Chicago with clinical symptoms and signs of intussusception.

Hypnosis and Plasmatic Beta-Endorphins
1985The importance of B-endorphins and other polypetides has been demonstrated recently in the central modulation of pain and in analgesia. Diagnostic and clinical implications have been prospected in the pain field, and in relation with B-endorphins affinity with endogenous opiate receptor, in opiates addiction.

beta-Endorphin stimulates the secretion of insulin and glucagon in humans.
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1981Administration of beta-endorphin as an iv bolus elicited an acute and simultaneous rise in insulin and glucagon levels within 5 min in fasting normal male and female subjects. This was followed by an increase in the concentration of plasma glucose.

Beta-endorphin genetics in the etiology of alcoholism
Alcohol, 1988"Reinforcing" effects are ascribed to endogenous opioids, particularly to the pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)-derived beta-endorphin 1-31, the most potent opiate-active substance. Alcohol induces variations in the genetic processing of the precursor POMC and of beta-endorphin at different levels.

beta-Endorphin. Intravenous infusion causes behavioral change in psychiatric inpatients.
, 1980Ten depressed and eight schizophrenic patients received synthetic human beta-endorphin infusions in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover design.

Beta-endorphin is present in the male reproductive tract of five species.
Biology of Reproduction, 1982Previous studies from this laboratory have demonstrated immunostainable beta-endorphin-like material (beta-EP) in Leydig cells and epithelia of the epididymis, seminal vesicle and vas deferens of the rat.

A Role for Beta-Endorphin in the Pathogenesis of Human Obesity?
Hormone and Metabolic Research, 1991The discovery of several endogenous substances with morphine-like activity (endorphins and enkephalins) which possess potent behavioral effects, interfering with food and water intake, has led to suggest their implications in the pathogenesis of human obesity.
