Hypnosis and Plasmatic Beta-Endorphins

1985
The importance of B-endorphins and other polypetides has been demonstrated recently in the central modulation of pain and in analgesia. Diagnostic and clinical implications have been prospected in the pain field, and in relation with B-endorphins affinity with endogenous opiate receptor, in opiates addiction.

PLASMA BETA-ENDORPHIN LEVELS AND CHILDHOOD INTUSSUCEPTION

Pediatric Emergency Care, 1993
To determine whether childhood intestinal intussusception is associated with elevated plasma beta-endorphin levels, a series of patients was studied prospectively. Fourteen patients (age range between 3 months and 7 years) presented to two university pediatric emergency departments in Chicago with clinical symptoms and signs of intussusception.

Beta-endorphin genetics in the etiology of alcoholism

Alcohol, 1988
"Reinforcing" effects are ascribed to endogenous opioids, particularly to the pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)-derived beta-endorphin 1-31, the most potent opiate-active substance. Alcohol induces variations in the genetic processing of the precursor POMC and of beta-endorphin at different levels.

A Role for Beta-Endorphin in the Pathogenesis of Human Obesity?

Hormone and Metabolic Research, 1991
The discovery of several endogenous substances with morphine-like activity (endorphins and enkephalins) which possess potent behavioral effects, interfering with food and water intake, has led to suggest their implications in the pathogenesis of human obesity.

Beta-Endorphin and Cold Pressor Test in the Aged

Gerontology, 1985
In 8 young and 8 elderly subjects mean values of plasma beta-endorphin were nearly equal under basal conditions. In all subjects the cold pressor test provoked a marked increase of beta-endorphin, which was more evident in young subjects. Mean values of the areas of endorphin modifications were the same in both young and elderly subjects. These results

Beta-endorphin in silent duodenal ulcer.

European journal of gastroenterology & hepatology, 1995
To investigate whether duodenal ulcer patients with painful active peptic ulcer and those with silent active ulceration have different plasma beta-endorphin levels.Forty-five patients (28 men and 17 women), aged 38-50 years, with at least a 5-year history of duodenal ulceration.

[Beta-endorphin and obesity. Possible pathogenetic implications].

Minerva endocrinologica, 1990
Several experimental data have documented the ability of both opiates and opioid peptides to stimulate food intake. On the other hand, the plasma beta-endorphin levels found in obese patients are higher than those observed in normal-weight controls, which may have pathogenetic implications. We have investigated the responses of plasma glucose, insulin,
