Spectral fluctuations of tridiagonal random matrices from the beta-Hermite ensemble

open access: yes, 2007
A time series delta(n), the fluctuation of the nth unfolded eigenvalue was recently characterized for the classical Gaussian ensembles of NxN random matrices (GOE, GUE, GSE).

Improved description of the $2νββ$-decay and a possibility to determine the effective axial-vector coupling constant [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev. C97 (2018) no.3, 034315, 2018
An improved formalism of the two-neutrino double-beta decay ($2\nu\beta\beta$-decay) rate is presented, which takes into account the dependence of energy denominators on lepton energies via the Taylor expansion. Till now, only the leading term in this expansion has been considered.

Verapamil and beta cell function in adults with recent-onset type 1 diabetes

open access: yesNature Network Boston, 2018
Pancreatic beta cell loss is a key factor in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes (T1D), but therapies to halt this process are lacking. We previously reported that the approved antihypertensive calcium-channel blocker verapamil, by decreasing the ...

Beta-functions and superstring compactifications

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1986
It is shown that quartic curvature modifications to the gravitational effective action derived from superstrings agree on Ricci-flat Kahler backgrounds with a recently-proposed four-loop counterterm in N = 2 Ricci-flat σ-models. These results seem to suggest that Calabi-Yau manifolds may not provide consistent compactifications of the superstring.

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

2型糖尿病患者的β细胞功能:能被保留或增强吗?

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, 2023
Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is a complex metabolic disorder manifested by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and deteriorating beta‐cell function. A way to prevent progression of the disease might be to enhance beta‐cell function and insulin secretion ...

Random multiplicative functions: The Selberg-Delange class [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Let $1/2\leq\beta<1$, $p$ be a generic prime number and $f_\beta$ be a random multiplicative function supported on the squarefree integers such that $(f_\beta(p))_{p}$ is an i.i.d. sequence of random variables with distribution $\mathbb{P}(f(p)=-1)=\beta=1-\mathbb{P}(f(p)=+1)$. Let $F_\beta$ be the Dirichlet series of $f_\beta$.

Beta cells in type 1 diabetes: mass and function; sleeping or dead?

open access: yesDiabetologia, 2019
Histological analysis of donor pancreases coupled with measurement of serum C-peptide in clinical cohorts has challenged the idea that all beta cells are eventually destroyed in type 1 diabetes.

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...
