Sesbania bispinosa, a new host of a begomovirus-betasatellite complex in Pakistan

Canadian Journal of Plant Pathology, 2016
AbstractSymptoms of severe leaf curling, yellowing and vein thickening, typical of begomovirus infection, were observed on Sesbania bispinosa grown in cotton leaf curl disease affected cotton fields in Pakistan. A begomovirus and its associated betasatellite were amplified and sequenced from these affected plants.

Xanthium strumarium: a weed host of components of begomovirus–betasatellite complexes affecting crops

Virus Genes, 2011
Xanthium strumarium is a common weed that often shows symptoms typical of begomovirus infection, such as leaf curling and vein thickening. The virus complex isolated from the weed consisted of two begomoviruses along with a betasatellite and an alphasatellite.

Characterization of a new begomovirus and betasatellite associated with chilli leaf curl disease in India

Archives of Virology, 2016
Chilli leaf curl disease (ChiLCD) is a serious problem and a major limitation to chilli (Capsicum spp.) cultivation in India. Leaves of a chilli plant showing leaf curl symptoms were collected from the Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, India, in April, 2013.

Infection of tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV), a bipartite begomovirus with betasatellites, results in enhanced level of helper virus components and antagonistic interaction between DNA B and betasatellites

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2013
Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) (Geminiviridae) is an important pathogen that severely affects tomato production. An extensive survey was carried out during 2003-2010 to study the diversity of begomoviruses found in tomato, potato, and cucurbits that showed symptoms of leaf puckering, distortion, curling, vein clearing, and yellow mosaic in ...

Tomato leaf curl Bangalore virus (ToLCBV): infectivity and enhanced pathogenicity with diverse betasatellites

Archives of Virology, 2010
Genomic components of a begomovirus isolated from tomato plants showing leaf curl and stunting symptoms in farmer's fields at Hessarghatta village near Bangalore, India, were cloned by rolling-circle amplification. The virus was identified as a variant of strain C of the species Tomato leaf curl Bangalore virus and designated as Tomato leaf curl ...

Complete nucleotide sequence of a begomovirus and associated betasatellite infecting croton (Croton bonplandianus) in Pakistan

Archives of Virology, 2011
The complete sequences of a begomovirus and an associated betasatellite isolated from Croton bonplandianus originating from Pakistan were determined. The sequence of the begomovirus showed the highest level of nucleotide sequence identity (88.9%) to an isolate of papaya leaf curl virus and thus represents a new species, for which we propose the name ...

A new begomovirus–betasatellite complex is associated with chilli leaf curl disease in Sri Lanka

Virus Genes, 2012
Leaf curl disease of chilli (LCDC) is a major constraint in production of chilli in the Indian subcontinent. The objective of this study was to identify the begomovirus species occurring in chilli in Sri Lanka, where the LCDC was initially recorded in 1938.

A betasatellite-dependent begomovirus infects ornamental rose: characterization of begomovirus infecting rose in Pakistan

Virus Genes, 2014
The Begomovirus genus of the family Geminiviridae comprises the largest group of geminiviruses. The list of begomoviruses is continuously increasing as a result of improvement in the methods for identification. Ornamental rose plants (Rosa chinensis) with highly stunted growth and leaf curling were found in Faisalabad, Pakistan.

A betasatellite-encoded protein regulates key components of gene silencing system in plants

Molecular Biology, 2017
Small circular single-stranded DNA satellites, called betasatellites, have been found in association with some monopartite begomovirus infections. The Cotton leaf curl Multan betasatellite (CLCuMuB) is known to influence symptom induction in cotton leaf curl disease.
