Non-Empirical BEM Corrections Relating to Angular and Axial Momentum Conservation

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The Blade-Element Momentum (BEM) model for Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs), although extremely useful, is known to be approximate due to model formulation insufficiencies, for which add-ons and corrections have been formulated over the past many ...

Non‐uniform velocity distribution effect on the Betz–Joukowsky limit

open access: yesWind Energy, 2012
ABSTRACTA simple analytic correction is derived for the maximum efficiency of an ideal wind turbine rotor, the Betz–Joukowsky limit. The analytic correction accounts for the effect that the non‐uniform atmospheric boundary layer velocity distribution has on the Betz–Joukowsky derivation.

Superadiabatic transitions in quantum molecular dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study the dynamics of a molecule’s nuclear wave function near an avoided crossing of two electronic energy levels for one nuclear degree of freedom.

A Multi-Element Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbine

open access: yesEnergies, 2014
A new class of diffuser augmented wind turbines (DAWTs) is presented. The new diffuser concept exploits aero-dynamic principles for the creation of high-lift airfoil configurations known from the aircraft industry.

Refined Betz limit for rotors with a finite number of blades

open access: yesWind Energy, 2008
AbstractThe criterion of Betz for optimum rotors with a finite number of blades is revisited and used to determine the performance of wind turbines. The Betz criterion states that ideal efficiency is obtained when the distribution of circulation along the blade produces a rigidly helicoid wake that moves in the direction of its axis with a constant ...

Benchmarking of a software stack for autonomous racing against a professional human race driver

open access: yes, 2020
The way to full autonomy of public road vehicles requires the step-by-step replacement of the human driver, with the ultimate goal of replacing the driver completely.

Detection of interstellar H_2D^+ emission [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We report the detection of the 1_{10}-1_{11} ground state transition of ortho-H_2D^+ at 372.421 GHz in emission from the young stellar object NGC 1333 IRAS 4A.

Experimental Factors and Techniques for Pool Boiling Heat Transfer Enhancement: A Critical Review

open access: yesHeat Transfer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review presents a comprehensive assessment of active strategies for enhancing pool boiling heat transfer, with a focus on techniques that do not rely solely on the boiling surface modification. It examines a broad range of methodologies including fluid additives, external fields, mechanical interventions, and thermal‐geometric tuning that

Effect of population reinforcement method, site, and plant characteristics on early establishment of the rare endemic plant species Minuartia smejkalii

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Many habitat‐specialist plant species have been endangered by fragmentation or destruction of their habitats. Minuartia smejkalii is a serpentinophyte endemic to the Czech Republic. It is highly threatened by recent habitat destruction and fragmentation, calling for effective conservation measures.

Two-point density correlations of quasicondensates in free expansion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We measure the two-point density correlation function of freely expanding quasicondensates in the weakly interacting quasi-one-dimensional (1D) regime.
