The clinical immune response of cattle experimentally challenged with bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) after treatment with florfenicol at the time of BHV-1 vaccination, was measured in groups of 10 unvaccinated beef-type, crossbred steers randomly assigned to one of 4 treatment groups: (a) florfenicol-treated and BHV-1-vaccinated (FF+, VX+), (b ...

Detection of the bovine herpesvirus-1 (BHV-1) genome by PCR
Journal of Virological Methods, 1993The amplification of the 468 bp fragment of the BHV-1 genome by PCR is described. The 22 bp oligomers from the BHV-1 gI gene were used as primers. For successful amplification the thermal denaturation (100 degrees C/8 min, ice) of the DNA sample was carried out prior to the cycling (95 degrees C for 1 min, 56 degrees C for 1 min, 73 degrees C for 1 min)

Baculovirus (Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis)-expressed bovine herpesvirus-1 (BHV-1) glycoproteins B (gB), gC, and gD were developed and characterized. The recombinant proteins retained their antigenic properties as determined by immunoblotting against monoclonal antibodies.

15 monoclonal antibodies (McAbs) were induced with the neuropathogenic strain N 569 of bovine herpesvirus 1 type 3 (BHV-1.3). Nine of them could be shown by radioimmunoprecipitation assay to react with viral glycoproteins and two of these McAbs were able to neutralize strain N 569.

Bovine Herpesvirus 1 (Bhv-1(: Biology, Pathogenesis, and Control
1995Publisher Summary The past decade has seen very significant progress in the identification and characterization of the proteins of vovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1), and in understanding their role in the initiation of infection at the receptor level and in virus replication.

[BHV-1 intradermal test in cattle].
Tierarztliche Praxis, 1993Investigations concerning an intradermal test for the diagnosis of BHV 1 infection were carried out in 221 cattle. In 16% of cases the result of the test was dependent on the time the test was read (48 or 72 h). Fifteen per cent of the animals older than 9 months showed no reaction to the intradermal test though humoral antibodies against BHV 1 were ...

Expression of the high-affinity interleukin 2 receptor alpha chain (CD25) was used to monitor antigen-specific activation of T lymphocyte subsets (CD4+, CD8+, and gammadelta T cells) from cattle immunized with modified live bovine herpesvirus-1 (BHV-1).

Thirty-six beef calves were used to test the efficacy of an experimental truncated BHV-1 glycoprotein (tgIV) vaccine. Calves from 1 source and +/- 1 mo of age were randomly divided into 4 groups: 1) control (adjuvant VSA3), 2) vaccinated with tgIV at 3 and 4 mo of age, 3) vaccinated with tgIV at 3 and 7 mo of age, or 4) vaccinated with tgIV at 6 and 7 ...

We expressed the bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) glycoprotein IV (gIV) in bovine cells. The protein expressed was identical in molecular mass and antigenic reactivity to the native gIV protein but was localized in the cytoplasm. Expressing cells were partially resistant to BHV-1, herpes simplex virus, and pseudorabies virus, as shown by a 10- to 1,000 ...

Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) strains can be differentiated by their DNA and polypeptide patterns, and by antigenic properties as demonstrated by monoclonal antibodies. We classified the BHV-1 strains according to these data as BHV-1.1, BHV-1.2 (a/b) and BHV-1.3 (a/b).
