Rectangular Tubular Steel Columns Loaded Biaxially

Journal of Structural Mechanics, 1982
ABSTRACT An inelastic analysis of rectangular tubular steel columns subjected to a constant axial load and a gradually increasing biaxial end moment is presented. Analytical thrust-moment-curvature relationships are given for the cross section with bilinear material stress-strain characteristics. An iterative procedure based on column deflection curves

Biaxially Loaded Concrete Sections

Journal of the Structural Division, 1979
A method has been developed for the calculation of the ultimate strength and the design of reinforced concrete sections subject to biaxial eccentricity. The method follows the recommendations of the CEB-FIP Model Code for Concrete Structures but can easily be adapted to the ACI code.

Strength of biaxially loaded orthotropic plates

Thin-Walled Structures, 2012
Abstract An approximate and simple method for rectangular orthotropic plates, loaded biaxially along two mutually perpendicular directions is presented. The theory is based on the energy method and it is free from difficult calculations such as those encountered when large deflection theory is used.

The inclined crack under biaxial load

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1978
Abstract The problem of a sheet with an inclined crack subject to a system of biaxial loads is examined in a manner similar to that used in our previous publications. The combined effect of load biaxiality and crack orientation on K l , K II , maximum shear, anile of initial crack extension, elastic strain energy density, as well ...

Crack initiation under biaxial loading

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1988
Abstract In this paper the crack initiation under biaxial loading is studied. The crack extension angle and the critical stress of fracture are determined for various values of the crack inclination angle and for various values of the biaxial factor k . The Det.-criterion, developed by the author, was used.

Fatigue Crack Propagation Under Biaxial Tensile Loading: Effect of the Phase Difference on Biaxial Loading

Volume 3: Materials Technology; Ocean Space Utilization, 2013
Fatigue crack propagation under biaxial tensile loading is highlighted in this study. Ships and offshore structures are subjected to many types of loading, e.g. wave induced forces, gravity, and inertia forces. Generally, these loadings have different axial components with different phases.

On Biaxially Loaded Internal Cracks

International Journal of Fracture, 2001
The initiation of fracture is studied for an internally cracked large plate. The cracked plate is subjected to biaxial loading with different ratios of the normal load to the lateral load. The initiation of crack propagation is predicted by using a strain based mechanism of fracture.

Interaction Equations for Biaxially Loaded Sections

Journal of the Structural Division, 1972
A simple method for obtaining the exact interaction relationships of doubly symmetric sections under combined axial force and biaxial bending moments is presented. Simple expressions for approximating the interaction curves of wide-flange sections are proposed, and the associated plastic deformations are calculated. For illustration, interaction curves

Failure assessment diagram under biaxial loading

Structural Safety, 1993
Abstract The Failure Assessment Diagram (FAD) for evaluating the safety margin of cracked structure under biaxial loading is explored. The J- integral fracture parameters, i.e. J e (elastic) and J ep (elastic-plastic) are calculated by the finite element method and the instantaneous load of initiation of crack growth ...

Tapered Box Columns under Biaxial Loading

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1989
The stability of symmetric pin‐ended square box column tapering from the mid‐length to the ends and subjected to the combined action of axial thrust and biaxial moments is investigated. Torsional‐flexural behavior is not considered. The tangent stiffness method is used to develop the moment‐curvature‐thrust relationships for the column cross section ...
