Dynamic Current Routing in Conductive Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Complex Deformation Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel actuation control strategy in which electrical stimulation generates localized Joule heating in conductive liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) surfaces, enabling complex 3D deformations from a single homogeneous surface without preprogramming.

Footing Soil Pressure from Biaxial Loading [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering Journal, 2019
A symmetrical isolated rectangular footing with centered biaxial overturning develops soil pressure that shifts to counter balance the loads. The highest soil pressure is at a corner. The objective of this paper is to extend the uniaxial soil pressure solution to include biaxial loads and to document a simple and understandable way to directly ...

Quasi‐Single‐Mode Polaritonic Crystal for Hyperbolic Phonon‐Polaritons

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐field study of the polaritonic Fourier crystal with α‐MoO3 reveals that the hyperbolic phonon‐polaritons within the Type‐I Reststrahlen band may form a quasi‐single‐mode Bloch wave where only the fundamental mode propagates in the crystal. Our results demonstrate the realization of a quasi‐single‐mode regime for the inherently multimode hyperbolic

Aseismic Capability of Beam-to-Column Joint in RC Frame Under Biaxial Loading

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
The aseismic capability of a beam-to-column connection may be lower under identical bidirectional compared to unidirectional loads. However, earthquake excitations are multidimensional and random, so joints may be simultaneously subjected to different ...

Ultimate State of Biaxial Compression and Bending of H-Shaped Steel Members Under Complex Loading

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao
Purposes To obtain the ultimate state performance of H-shaped steel components under different loading paths, a method for determining the ultimate state of components is proposed on the basis of the elastic-plastic stability theory.

Concrete under biaxial dynamic compressive loading

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2017
Abstract A concrete type C20/25 was examined under biaxial dynamic compressive loading with several stress ratios and two different loading rates (75 and 150 1/s). The question to be answered is, if the two strength enhancing effects of biaxial compressive loading and elevated strain rate overlay under this combined loading condition.

Hierarchical Strain‐Modified Medium‐Entropy Carbide Ceramics Exhibit Exceptional Ablation Resistance up to 2400°C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel strategy is developed by doping reduced graphene oxide (rGO) into a (HfZrTi)C medium‐entropy ceramic. This induces a hierarchical strain modification mechanism, synergistically inhibiting crack propagation at the microscale and dissipating stress at the mesoscale.
