Biaxial tensile testing of cruciform specimen under complex loading
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2005Abstract In order to carry out biaxial tensile test, a PC-based control system and a digital PID controller was designed and developed on the basis of the three axes loading machine made and PID control principle. And some key techniques in biaxial tensile test have been solved, such as the displacement synchronous control of the same axial jaws, the

Plastic Material Model Identification Using Dic on Biaxial Tensile Test
2007The accuracy of a Finite Element Simulation for plastic deformation strongly depends on the chosen constitutive laws and the value of the material parameters within these laws. The identification of those mechanical parameters can be done based on homogeneous stress and strain fields such as those obtained in uni-axial tensile tests and simple shear ...

Optimisation of Cruciform Test Specimen for Biaxial Tensile Testing of Sheet Metal
Advanced Materials Research, 2011One of the most restricting aspects of the biaxial tensile test for sheet metal is the design of the cruciform specimen. Although specimens of the cruciform type have previoussly been investigated quite extensively, no standard geometry for the cruciform specimen exists.

Design of geomembrane specimen for biaxial tensile testing
Geosynthetics InternationalA numerical–experimental framework is developed to optimise the design of geomembrane specimens for biaxial tensile testing. Specifically, the geometry and adhesive bonding method of specimens are optimised to maximise strain in the central measuring region while reducing premature failure caused by stress concentrations outside this region.

Use of the hydraulic bulge test in biaxial tensile testing
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1979Abstract The effect of the geometry of the bulge and the measuring procedure on the determination of biaxial stress-strain curves is examined. The shape of the top of the bulge is shown to be nearly spherical irrespective of the anisotropy of the sheet, while the meridional strains may differ from the balanced biaxial strain state.

An Apparatus for Biaxial Strength Testing of Standard Tensile Specimens
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1992Abstract A novel, low cost testing apparatus has been designed for the application of biaxial stress on standard tensile spectmens. The apparatus independently applies compressive loading perpendicular to a tensile load. The compressive load is transferred through a compression pad, applying hydrostatic pressure to the test section.

Biomechanical properties of porcine cornea; planar biaxial tests versus uniaxial tensile tests
Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical MaterialsThe cornea is a transparent tissue whose mechanical properties are important for its optical and physiological functions. The mechanical properties of cornea depend on the composition and microstructure of its extracellular matrix, which is composed of collagen fibrils with preferential orientations.

Localized strain measurements of the intervertebral disc annulus during biaxial tensile testing
Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2014Both inter-lamellar and intra-lamellar failures of the annulus have been described as potential modes of disc herniation. Attempts to characterize initial lamellar failure of the annulus have involved tensile testing of small tissue samples. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a method of measuring local surface strains through image analysis of ...

Optimal Design of a Disk-Shaped Specimen for Biaxial-Tensile Fatigue Testing
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1996Abstract A relatively simple apparatus has been proposed for conducting biaxial-tensile fatigue tests using an annular disk specimen with a reduced testing section. It makes use of a conventional hydraulic testing machine so that the uniaxial force is converted into radial forces extending the disk specimen.
