Explaining educational differences in sickness absence: a population-based follow-up study

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2015
Objects There is a marked socioeconomic gradient in sickness absences, but the causes of this gradient are poorly understood. This study examined the role of health and work-related factors as determinants of educational differences in long-term sickness

Synthesis of CuAl-, CoAl-, and CuCoAl-Catalysts from Layered Hydroxides for Furfural Hydrogenation

open access: yesEng, 2022
Catalysts based on CuAl-, CoAl-, and CuCoAl-layered hydroxides with M2+/Al = 2 and Cu/Co = 1 molar ratio were obtained. The effect of amount of cobalt on the structural properties, morphology, surface cations distribution, oxide phase formation, thermal ...

AutomataGPT: Transformer‐Based Forecasting and Ruleset Inference for Two‐Dimensional Cellular Automata

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce AutomataGPT, a generative pretrained transformer (GPT) trained on synthetic spatiotemporal data from 2D cellular automata to learn symbolic rules. Demonstrating strong performance on both forward and inverse tasks, AutomataGPT establishes a scalable, domain‐agnostic framework for interpretable modeling, paving the way for future ...

Automatic speaker segmentation using multiple features and distance measures: a comparison of three approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper addresses the problem of unsupervised speaker change detection. Three systems based on the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) are tested.

A small RNA makes a Bic difference [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2007
The first highly specific knockouts of a microRNA, miR155, in mice result in multiple defects in adaptive immunity, and also show the feasibility of investigating at least some microRNAs by gene knockout.

Consensus Formation and Change are Enhanced by Neutrality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neutral agents are shown to enhance both the formation and overturning of consensus in collective decision‐making. A general mathematical model and experiments with locusts and humans reveal that neutrality enables robust consensus via simple interactions and accelerates consensus change by reducing effective population size.

Spin-dependent edge detection and imaging enabled by optical circularly polarised states

open access: yesLight: Advanced Manufacturing
In photonic crystal slab (PCS) structures, the bound states in the continuum (BICs) and circularly polarised states (dubbed C-points) are critical topological polarisation singularities in momentum space that have garnered significant attention owing to ...

The Effect of Storage-Induced Changes in Ammonia Borane on Hydrogen Release during Its Low-Temperature Thermolysis

open access: yesInorganics, 2019
In this paper, low-temperature solid-state processes of the dehydrogenation of ammonia borane (NH3BH3, AB) samples of different purity are compared under the conditions of isothermal heating at 100 °C, as well as in the course of thermal analysis ...

Few-Photon Scattering in Dispersive Waveguides with Multiple Qubits

open access: yes, 2016
We extend the Krylov-subspace based time-dependent numerical simulation technique for a qubit interacting with photons in a waveguide to the multiple qubit case.
