Design of a compact biconical antenna for UWB applications

2011 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems (ISPACS), 2011
This paper presents the study, design, fabrication, and measurement of a vertically polarized compact biconical antenna that can be used as a reference antenna. The study from simulation results suggest that the optimal antenna shall have the flare angle of 60° which gave the most stable vertical beamwidth in the broadside direction and the fewest ...

The fields and currents of a thin biconical antenna. The parameters of a radiating antenna

Measurement Techniques, 2008
A theoretical analysis of the operation of a thin radiating biconical antenna is given. Formulas are obtained for the current distribution in the antenna and its input impedance.

Calibration of biconical antennas using the standard antenna method

1999 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (IEEE Cat. No.99EX147), 2003
Antenna arrangements for calibration of EMI biconical antennas are theoretically investigated using the method of moments. It is found that, below the resonance frequency around 70 MHz of a biconical antenna, the standard antenna method yields antenna factors monotonously approaching a far-field value with increasing the antenna separation distance. General Theory of Symmetric Biconical Antennas

Journal of Applied Physics, 1951
This paper presents the input admittance of a symmetric biconical antenna of an arbitrary angle as the limit of a certain sequence of functions. The first term of this sequence approaches the exact expressions for the input admittance as the cone angle approaches either zero or 90°.

On the impedance of a class of biconical antennas

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1969
It is shown that the results derived in a series of papers by K, Franz in general represent upper bounds rather than exact expressions for the impedance characteristics of a class of dipole antennas with biconical input regions.

Analysis of linear biconical antenna array

2010 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMMUNICATION CONTROL AND COMPUTING TECHNOLOGIES, 2010
The biconical dipole antenna is frequency independent antenna. A dipole antenna is a narrowband and frequency dependent. In this paper a linear array of five biconical antennas with cone angle 30° is modeled in WIPL-D software and analyzed. Radiation pattern, gain, impedance and S- parameter plots of the array are analyzed and presented for 1–5 GHz ...

Interaction Between Thin Biconical Antennas

Measurement Techniques, 2017
Formulas for estimating the error in measurement of the electric field strength caused by interaction between the generating and measuring antennas are obtained. Thin biconical antennas and different modes of operation of the generating antenna are considered.

Modified Biconical Antenna for Ultrawideband Applications

2016 10th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP), 2016
In this paper a compact antenna for ultrawideband applications is presented. The antenna is based on the biconical antenna design and has two identical elements. Each element is composed of a cone extended with a ring and an inner cylinder. The modification of the well-known biconical structure is made in order to reduce the influence of the radiation ...

Time-domain three antenna method for biconical antenna

CPEM 2010, 2010
We apply our proposed method [1] for evaluating the free-space antenna factor of a Biconical antenna. The method is based on the techniques of a time domain analysis and a pulse compression technique. The method enables us to isolate the direct wave from the reflected waves on the ground plane in an open area test site, and to evaluate the free-space ...
