Some design considerations for biconical antennas

1984 Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2005
This paper discusses the use of the body of revolution moment method formulation to predict the radiation patterns of biconical antennas, and describes a novel and practical feed point arrangement for fine-tuning the antenna reflection coefficient.

Performance of biconical antennas at low frequencies

1992 Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics, 1992
Planar wire model biconical antennas with flare angle of 30°, 60°, and 90°, and various hat angles are examined using the method of moment. It is found that the planar model does not exhibit the same broadband performance as the body-of-revolution model.

Wall admittance of biconical microstrip antennas

Digest on Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium, 2003
Equations for the wall admittances of biconical microstrip antennas are derived. Relative wall conductances and susceptances are plotted. >

Biconical Antenna Over Ground Plane

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2012
A bicone over a finite ground plane is designed that has on average 2.8 dB more gain over a 10:1 band than its free-space counterpart. Metrics are established that enable a better understanding of antenna performance taking into account both the impedance and the radiation pattern. The effects of a finite sized ground plane are explored.

Miniaturization of the Biconical Antenna for Ultrawideband Applications

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2009
A miniaturized, ultrawideband antenna for the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency band is presented. The antenna is designed to have a low profile to enhance integration onto existing structures and a low directivity pattern for body worn applications. A systematic process to miniaturize the well-known biconical antenna is illustrated by adding several different

A compact biconical antenna for ultrawideband applications

2013 5th IEEE International Symposium on Microwave, Antenna, Propagation and EMC Technologies for Wireless Communications, 2013
A compact ultrawideband antenna with the asymmetric biconical and upside-down discone is proposed. The asymmetric biconical antenna has wire structure like octopus legs for covering at lower operating frequency, and the upside-down discone antenna has conical shape playing a role as covering at higher operating frequency.

The biconical antenna in a radially stratified medium

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1965
The theory of a transmitting biconical antenna in a radially and continuously stratified medium is developed; its input impedance is computed and plotted vs. its length for various media and cone angles. The medium extends to infinity and is characterized by a complex dielectric factor \xi=\epsilon-i\sigma/\omega=\epsilon_{0}f(r) , where r is the ...

Ring Charges on Biconical Transmitting Antennas

Electromagnetics, 1987
ABSTRACT The arm-cap Junction of a biconical antenna supports a ring charge, the value of which is calculable in an electromagnetically exact way. The field intensity Just off its surface Is singular but integrable. Charge values are calculated Using conservation of charge and Causa' law.

A hybrid simulator with novel bicone-wire grid antenna

Review of Scientific Instruments
The simulator is an indispensable device for the study of high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) effects. In order to improve the quality of the electric field waveforms of the HEMP simulator, we carried out simulation and experimental studies for the biconical-wire grid antenna.
