Anterograde crossing of a bicuspid aortic valve through transseptal access to facilitate transcatheter aortic valve implantation

open access: yesHeart Views, 2021
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for bicuspid aortic valve stenosis can pose several technical challenges including difficult valve crossing.

Raman Microscopy at the Organic–Inorganic Interfaces in Human Calcified Aortic Valves Shows the Co‐Existence of Whitlockite Crystals and Carbonated Hydroxyapatite‐Mineralized Collagen Fibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances our understanding of aortic valve stenosis by capturing spatially resolved chemical and structural changes at the nanoscale. The findings highlight the potential of combined Raman and electron microscopy for understanding calcification mechanisms across diverse tissue types.

The first clinical data of the SAPIEN 3 aortic valve in the treatment of aortic stenosis in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
BackgroundData on outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement with SAPIEN 3 in China is limited as it was approved by the National Medical Products since 2020.

Bicuspid Aortic Valve Morphology

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2010
We read with interest and appreciation 3 recent papers in the Journal on the bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). Fernandez et al. ([1][1]) describe distinct developmental patterns for mice and hamsters with right-noncoronary and right-left coronary cusp fusion, respectively.

Bicuspid mitral bioprosthesis. [PDF]

open access: yesThorax, 1981
A bicuspid mitral bioprosthesis was prepared by mounting glutaraldehyde-processed porcine pericardium onto commercially available Brownlee-Yates stents. The bioprostheses were inserted into 17 dogs. Haemodynamic performance and long-term function of the valve was assessed.

Spatially Tailorable Liquid Crystalline Elastomer Alignment During Digital Light Process 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we report the fabrication of 3D printable liquid crystalline elastomer (LCE) structures with spatially tailorable alignment domains within the same layer. This work addresses the long‐standing challenge of preparing complex 3D LCE architectures with patterned functional domains to achieve nonlinear deformations. Fabrication of multi‐domains in 3D

The surgical exposure of teeth - simplest, safest and best?

open access: yesAustralasian Orthodontic Journal, 1987
The alignment of impacted teeth forms an important part of the work load in orthodontic practice and involves co-operation between the oral surgeon and the orthodontist. Any tooth in either arch may be impacted.

Infective endocarditis risk in patients with bicuspid aortic valve: Systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cardiology: Heart & Vasculature, 2023
Background: Antibiotic prophylaxis in bicuspid aortic valve patients is currently a matter of debate. Although it is no longer recommended by international guidelines, some studies indicate a high risk of infective endocarditis.

A Versatile Engineering Platform for the Fabrication of Prosthetic Venous Valves Using Electrospinning

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Percutaneous prosthetic venous valves are fabricated by embedding stents in an electrospun matrix that extends luminally to form leaflets. The design shields leaflets from hyperplastic cells, isolates struts from blood contact, and avoids discrete anchoring points.

Diagnostic role of aortic valve calcium scoring in various etiologies of aortic stenosis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Most of the studies about aortic valve calcium (AVC) score in aortic stenosis (AS) were based on degenerative or bicuspid AS but not rheumatic AS. We aimed to study the diagnostic accuracy of AVC score to determine severe AS in various etiologies.
