Stability analysis of cascaded converters for bidirectional power flow applications

INTELEC 2008 - 2008 IEEE 30th International Telecommunications Energy Conference, 2008
This paper establishes the criteria to ensure stable operation of two-stage, bidirectional, isolated AC-DC converters. The bi-directional converter is analyzed in the context of a building block module (BBM) that enables a fully modular architecture for universal power flow conversion applications (AC-DC, DC-AC and DC-DC).

New Intelligent Semiconductor Transformer With Bidirectional Power-Flow Capability

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2014
This letter proposes a new intelligent semiconductor transformer (IST) which consists of a bidirectional ac/dc resonant converter, dc/dc converter, and dc/ac converter. This structure provides good voltage-balancing performance on the high-voltage side and a simple control method for bidirectional power flow.

Bidirectional power flow Z-source dc-dc converter

2008 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2008
This paper proposes a novel Z-source dc-dc converter topology suitable for electric vehicle application. Compared to the existing dc-dc converter circuits, they can reduce in-rush and harmonic current, provide larger range of output dc voltage and improve reliability.

Transformer for contactless electric vehicle charging with bidirectional power flow

2017 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2017
This paper investigates the use of air-gap transformers in wireless energy transfer, particularly in electric vehicles. Air-gap transformers have very low coupling factor due to the length of the air-gap between the vehicle and the charging platform. A novel approach has been proposed to achieve bidirectional control of power.

A Novel Control for Bidirectional Power Flow of a Parallel Resonant Converter

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1987
A new control parameter is proposed to achieve output regulation and bidirectional power flow of a parallel-resonant converter which employs a controlled output rectifier. The control parameter, ? angle, is defined as the displacement angle between the firing of the inverter switches and their corresponding rectifier switches. Employing ? angle control,

A bidirectional power flow rectifier with unity power factor based on instantaneous control values

The IEEE Region 8 EUROCON 2003. Computer as a Tool., 2004
The paper is focused on a voltage control implementation of a three-phase rectifier (600 V/12 kVA) with unity power factor. In contrast to other known solutions based on microcomputer or DSP control, it introduces a simple control algorithm. It relies on instantaneous control values of three-phase bridge inverter that inherently performs three-phase to

Operating modes and practical power flow analysis of bidirectional isolated power interface for distributed power systems

Energy Conversion and Management, 2016
Abstract Due to the intermittent nature of the renewable energy sources including photovoltaic and wind energy, the energy storage systems are essential to stabilize dc bus voltage. Considering the discharge depth of super-capacitors and energy-storage batteries, the bidirectional isolated power interface will operate for a wide range of voltage and ...

A new thyristor phase-controlled voltage source converter with bidirectional power flow capability

IAS '97. Conference Record of the 1997 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirty-Second IAS Annual Meeting, 1998
A new line-commutated thyristor phase-controlled voltage-source power converter (VSC) with bidirectional power flow capability is proposed and studied. The proposed power converter has the same structure as the pulsewidth modulation (PWM) VSC, however, the switching devices are not self-commutated devices but line-commutated thyristors, and the ...
