Deconstructability prediction for building using machine learning and ensemble feature selection techniques

open access: yesScientific Reports
Construction industries remain one of the most significant users of materials and generators of waste in the UK and globally. Notwithstanding, the principle of circular economy is becoming prominent as an effective means for powering greater resource ...

Analysis of Dimensionality Reduction Techniques on Big Data

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Due to digitization, a huge volume of data is being generated across several sectors such as healthcare, production, sales, IoT devices, Web, organizations. Machine learning algorithms are used to uncover patterns among the attributes of this data. Hence,

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

Epidemiology and ‘big data’ [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Epidemiology, 2017
In the past 70 years, epidemiology has gone through asubstantial development of both methodology and moresophisticated analyses with determinant- and disease-specific elements. Despite the discussion earlier in thisjournal as to whether the duality of epidemiology’sembrace of both research methods and content-based topicsis a positive development [1, 2]

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Big Data, Big Opportunities, and Big Challenges [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology Symposium Proceedings, 2015
High-throughput assays have begun to revolutionize modern biology and medicine. The advent of cheap next-generation sequencing (NGS) has made it possible to interrogate cells and human populations as never before. Although this has allowed us to investigate the genetics, gene expression, and impacts of the microbiome, there remain both practical and ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Big Trials or Big Data

open access: yesJACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, 2016
![Figure][1] The interventional cardiology course that we began after Andreas Gruentzig joined us 35 years ago continues to evolve. Initially this was the primary exposure for invasive cardiologists desiring to take up the new method of coronary angioplasty.
