Evaluation of Experienced Manipulation Characteristics in Robotic Surgery Using Log Data From the Hinotori Surgical System

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study analyzed log data from the Japanese hinotori surgical robot to characterize manipulation performed by experienced surgeons in robotic surgery. Compared with less‐experienced surgeons, the experienced group demonstrated shorter task durations, reduced travel distances with the right instrument (Arm3), faster and more dynamically modulated ...

Ultra‐Thin and Highly Insulating Aromatic Monolayers by N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
By using N‐heterocyclic carbenes extremally insulating and at the same time as thin as 0.3 nm molecular films are formed. The charge transport calculations indicate absence of destructive quantum interference effect which was so far the only way to suppress conductivity in aromatic molecules.

XD-Bike: A Cross-Device Repository of Mountain Biking Routes

open access: yes, 2016
Despite the high level of interest in cross-device interaction, only few fully functional example applications exist. With XD-Bike, we built one of our own to not only showcase the use of our cross-device framework but also gather insights into the development process.

Automation of Surgical Workflow Recognition: Unveiling the Surgical Instrument Kinematics that Underly Robot‐Assisted Prostatectomy Procedures

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Automated procedural analysis is recognized as one of the major game changers for robotic surgery. Meaning digital analysis needs to replace the manual assessments that set todays standard. Mechanical robotic‐instrument tracking enables the derivation of quantitative kinematic metrics that support behavior‐based workflow segmentation into distinct ...

Direct δ‐Lactone Synthesis From Free Alcohols via Photoinduced δ‐C(sp3)–H Carbonylation in Flow

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Herein, we have developed a photo‐flow platform for the δ‐C(sp3)─H carbonylative lactonization of free alcohols with carbon monoxide. The transformation integrates alkoxyl radical generation, selective 1,5‐HAT, CO incorporation, and radical–polar crossover to enable direct access to δ‐lactones from simple alcohol precursors.

Public employees in South-Western Norway using an e-bike or a regular bike for commuting – A cross-sectional comparison on sociodemographic factors, commuting frequency and commuting distance

open access: yesPreventive Medicine Reports, 2019
Large-scale analyses on the travel behavior of e-bikes are scarce, and current knowledge regarding who the e-bike owners are is inconsistent. Also, commuters represent a relevant user group with an unexploited potential.

Printed Wearable Sweat Rate Sensor for Continuous In Situ Perspiration Measurement

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
A wireless wearable sweat rate sensor system is presented, featuring digital 3D direct‐write printing on a flexible substrate with microfluidic layers for continuous, real‐time monitoring. Printed encapsulated metal electrodes are used for capacitance measurements, achieving high sensitivity (0.01 μL min−1) while maintaining a compact and lightweight ...

Excited‐State Antiaromaticity in Nonbenzenoid Aromatics: Examining the Dynamics of Intramolecular Proton Transfer With a Small Driving Force

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The excited‐state antiaromaticity of hydroxybenzotropyliums (HBTs) can be tuned through substituent effects to bring the aromatic ‘enol’ (E) and keto (K) tautomers close in energy. This leads to abnormally slow excited‐state proton transfer (on the ns timescale), giving rise to dual fluorescence emission and weak photoacidity.
