Unconventional fractional quantum Hall effect in monolayer and bilayer graphene

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2016
The commensurability condition is applied to determine the hierarchy of fractional fillings of Landau levels in monolayer and in bilayer graphene. The filling rates for fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) in graphene are found in the first three Landau

Negative Landau Damping in Bilayer Graphene [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
We theoretically demonstrate that a system formed by two coupled graphene sheets enables a negative damping regime wherein graphene plasmons are pumped by a DC current. This effect is triggered by electrons drifting through one of the graphene sheets and leads to the spontaneous light emission (spasing) and wave instabilities in the mid-infrared range.

Effects of Crack Formation on the Mechanical Properties of Bilayer Graphene: A Comparative Analysis

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
We present a molecular dynamics simulation study on the effects of crack formation on the mechanical properties of bilayer graphene. Bilayer graphene possesses unique electronic properties that can be modified by applying a voltage, making it an ...

Anomalous Exciton Condensation in Graphene Bilayers [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2010
In ordinary semiconductor bilayers, exciton condensates appear at total Landau level filling factor $ν_{T}=1$. We predict that similar states will occur in Bernal stacked graphene bilayers at many non-zero integer filling factors. For $ν_{T} = -3,1$ we find that the superfluid density of the exciton condensate vanishes and that a finite-temperature ...

Quasi-freestanding AA-stacked bilayer graphene induced by calcium intercalation of the graphene-silicon carbide interface

open access: yesFrontiers in Nanotechnology
We study quasi-freestanding bilayer graphene on silicon carbide intercalated by calcium. The intercalation, and subsequent changes to the system, were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and ...

Population inversion in monolayer and bilayer graphene [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2015
The recent demonstration of saturable absorption and negative optical conductivity in the Terahertz range in graphene has opened up new opportunities for optoelectronic applications based on this and other low dimensional materials. Recently, population inversion across the Dirac point has been observed directly by time- and angle-resolved ...
