Usefulness of endoscopic ultrasonography in the clinical suspicion of biliary disease.

open access: yesRevista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas, 2011
BACKGROUND AND AIMS endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a very sensitive and specific technique for the diagnosis of biliary diseases. This procedure has proven its usefulness in cases of high suspicion of biliary disease (history of gallstones and dilatation

Polymer Nanogels with Albumin Reporting Interface Created Using RAFT Precipitation Polymerization for Disease Diagnosis and Food Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Herein, polymer nanogels with a reporting interface for albumin are synthesized through reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) precipitation polymerization of di(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate and N,N’‐methylenebis(acrylamide) using a poly(2‐methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) macro‐RAFT agent, followed by dansyl ...

Electrophotographic Powder Application for Surface Functionalization of Polymer Parts with Thin Silver‐Nanoadditivated Bactericidal Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Polyamide 12 powder nanoadditivated with laser‐synthesized silver nanoparticles is deposited and sintered on polymer parts via EPA‐PBF‐LB/P. The thin surface coating (140 µm) inhibits E. coli and S. aureus bacteria growth and significantly increases the UV light absorption, whereas the mechanical and thermal properties remain unchanged due to minimal ...

Correlation Between Fecal Microbiota and Corticosteroid Responsiveness in Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia: an Exploratory Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses gut microbiome data to predict corticosteroid response in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Fecal samples from 212 patients with ITP are sequenced. Six machine‐learning algorithms are used to train predictive models. The support vector machine‐based model integrated clinical data and selected microbial species, diversities ...

The footprint of gut microbiota in gallbladder cancer: a mechanistic review

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the most common malignant tumor of the biliary system with the worst prognosis. Even after radical surgery, the majority of patients with GBC have difficulty achieving a clinical cure. The risk of tumor recurrence remains more

Liver resection in a patient with persistent positive PCR test for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): a case report

open access: yesSurgical Case Reports, 2022
Background The perioperative mortality rate is high in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and infection control measures for medical care providers must be considered. Therefore, the timing for surgery in patients recovering from COVID-19

Role of Immune Cells in Biliary Repair

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
The biliary system is comprised of cholangiocytes and plays an important role in maintaining liver function. Under normal conditions, cholangiocytes remain in the stationary phase and maintain a very low turnover rate.

Maximum likelihood estimation of hidden Markov models for continuous longitudinal data with missing responses and dropout [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We propose an inferential approach for maximum likelihood estimation of the hidden Markov models for continuous responses. We extend to the case of longitudinal observations the finite mixture model of multivariate Gaussian distributions with Missing At Random (MAR) outcomes, also accounting for possible dropout.

Conjugated Lithocholic Acid Activates Hepatic TGR5 to Promote Lipotoxicity and MASLD‐MASH Transition by Disrupting Carnitine Biosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Takeda G protein‐coupled receptor 5 (TGR5) serves as a central regulator in the metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)/metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH) transition via conjugated lithocholic acid (LCA). Mechanistically, TGR5 orchestrates lipotoxicity‐induced cell death through its interaction with CD36 ...
