Bimodality of Freeman’s Law [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Contribution to ESO Workshop 18-20 November, 1996. Latex file produces 7 pages with 4 figures, requiring lamuphys.sty and psfig.sty files. A gzipped PostScript file (3.3 Mb) including a high quality version of figure 3 can be retrieved from ftp://kapteyn.astro.rug.nl/preprints/224.ps ...

Biomaterials‐Based Hydrogel with Superior Bio‐Mimetic Ionic Conductivity and Tissue‐Matching Softness for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By mimicking the ion‐accelerating effect of ion channel receptors in neuron membranes, a biomaterials‐based ionic hydrogel (BIH) is developed, which offers a high ionic conductivity of 7.04 S m−1, outperforming conventional chitosan, cellulose, agarose, starch, and gelatin based ionic hydrogels.

Raindrop size distribution variability associated with size‐dependent advection in convective precipitation systems

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters
Raindrop size distribution (DSD) is fundamental for understanding precipitation processes. This study utilized a two‐dimensional simulation with bin cloud microphysics parameterizations to investigate the spatiotemporal variability of DSDs owing to the ...

What defines a bimodal karyotype? Bimodality revisited

open access: yesCaryologia
Bimodal karyotypes, initially defined by Avdulov, are characterized by one large and one small set of chromosomes, reflecting a particular type of karyotype asymmetry. Despite later discussions by Stebbins, the absence of a quantitative criterion has led to subjective classifications.

Using Long‐Chain Polymechanophores to Explore the Differences in Mechanoactivation During Nozzle Flow and Ultrasonication

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flow through a nozzle is a common component of most fluid‐based polymer processing techniques such as spray drying, inkjet printing, extrusion. An ultrahigh molecular weight multi‐mechanophore system is used to probe the differences in the distribution of mechanical activation observed between nozzle flow and ultrasonication; the gold standard ...

Nonequilibrium phase transitions and stationary state solutions of a three-dimensional random-field Ising model under a time dependent periodic external field

open access: yes, 2012
Nonequilibrium behavior and dynamic phase transition properties of a kinetic Ising model under the influence of periodically oscillating random-fields have been analyzed within the framework of effective field theory (EFT) based on a decoupling ...

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...

Strong and ductile AZ31 Mg alloy with a layered bimodal structure

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
AZ31 Mg alloy was processed by accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) and hot rolling (HR), respectively, followed by annealing. Layered bimodal structures characterized by an alternative distribution of fine-grained layers and coarse-grained layers were ...

Preliminary Study of a Ninj1‐Loaded Bimodal Ultrasound/NIR Fluorescence Targeted Molecular Probe for Diagnosing Early‐Stage Inflammation in Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) targeting remains a challenge for precise diagnosis. This work presents a dual‐modal nanoprobe (T‐IR780‐NBs) that combines ultrasound contrast with near‐infrared fluorescence. This technology utilizes proteomics‐derived antibodies that specifically localize to inflamed and injured cardiac tissue, enabling ...
