Bimoment contribution to stability of thin-walled assemblages
Computers and Structures, 1980Abstract A finite element formulation for stability problems of structures assembled from thin-walled members with open crosssection is presented. The contribution of bimoment toward stability of unsymmetrical sections is included. Using the solutions of the homogeneous differential equations governing the static behavior as deformation modes, the ...

Influence of bimoment on the torsional and flexural–torsional elastic stability of thin-walled beams
Thin-Walled Structures, 2015Abstract This article studies the influence of the bimoment on the buckling of thin-walled beams with open cross section subjected to axial loading. In the case of torsional and torsional-flexural buckling of thin-walled Z-section beam, it is shown that influence of the bimoment could be of importance in the assessment of buckling loads.

Twist Control of an I-beam Through Vlasov Bimoment Actuation
49th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
16th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
10t, 2008The research presented in this paper examines the twisting of an I-beam spar through the application of differential axial loads (Vlasov bimoments). This is of interest for variable twist helicopter rotor blades where the outboard 12 − 32% of the blade can undergo large quasi-static twist variations for optimal performance over diverse operating ...

Bimoment Contribution to Buckling of Thin-Walled Beams with Different Boundary Conditions
Journal of Engineering Mechanics - ASCE, 2017AbstractIn this paper the influence of bimoment, induced by external axial loads, on the global buckling of thin-walled Z-section beams, subjected to different boundary conditions, is studied.

INFLUENCE OF INCLINED STIFFENERS IN I-BEAM CONNECTIONS ON BIMOMENT TRANSFERRING
Building and reconstruction, 2021Shear-free theory of V.Z. Vlasov remains one of the most reasonable approaches to calculating thin-walled bars taking into account constrained torsion. At the same time, the use of this theory for the analysis of deformations of frame structures still requires research in terms of the conditions for transferring forces in bar connections.

Yield Surfaces for I‐Sections with Bimoments
Journal of Structural Engineering, 1989This paper presents the yield‐surface diagrams for an I‐section subjected to five active‐stress resultants, including the axial compression, two bending moments, torsion, and bimoment. The difficulties involved in establishing the five‐dimensional yield‐surface equations are circumvented through the adoption of a parametric approach.

Torsional analysis of open thin-walled doubly symmetric beams under torsion and bimoment
i-manager's Journal on Mechanical Engineering, 2022The present paper investigated the static analysis for the coupled torsional-warping response of open thin-walled doubly symmetric beams subjected to various twisting moments and bimoments. The static equilibrium torsional-warping coupling differential equations and associated boundary conditions for the thin-walled beams are derived using total ...

Bimoment design of some rectangular slabs
Magazine of Concrete Research, 1983Synopsis This paper continues the development of practicable design-office methods for the plastic (‘yield-line’) design of slabs considered as torsion-free (Hillerborg) grillages. In particular it recognizes a more general class of problem in which the yield lines will be curved on plan andsuggests some expedient approximate methods for such ...
