Thermonuclear Runaways Events in Symbiotic Binaries

Most symbiotic binaries appear to contain low mass white dwarfs accreting hydrogen rich material from their M giant companions. Depending on the mass accretion rate, the symbiotic white dwarfs may undergo hydrogen shell flashes or burn the hydrogen immediately as it is accreted in a quasi stable shell.

Nature of the symbiotic binary V 1329 Cyg

The published photometric and spectroscopic data of the symbiotic binary V 1329 Cyg are interpreted. It is shown, that V 1329 Cyg is an eclipsing binary with an elliptical orbit orbit (e=0.28). The cooler component fills up the Roche-lobe at periastron.

Mass Loss Geometry in Symbiotic Binaries

I briefly revise the properties of the extended ionised nebulae around symbiotic stars. These are key objects in the discussion of the effects produced by a detached stellar companion on the AGB mass loss, of the outflows from accreting post-AGB stars, and of the mutual interaction of the slow and fast winds produced in these binary systems.

Symbiotic Stars in the Context of Binary Evolution and Metallicity
