Relation of Adverse Childhood Experiences to Clinical and Patient‐Reported Outcomes for Adults With Sickle Cell Disease: A Registry Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are stressful or traumatic events prior to age 18 that are known to have a lasting impact on individuals’ health and well‐being. There is a gap in understanding the relationship between ACEs and Other Life Stressors and health status for adults with sickle cell disease (SCD).

A Connection between Submillimeter Continuum Flux and Separation in Young Binaries

open access: yes, 1994
We have made sensitive 800-micron continuum observations of low-mass, pre-main sequence (PMS) binary stars with projected separations less than 25 AU in Taurus-Auriga to study disks in the young binary environment.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Asteroseismic Analysis of δ Scuti Components of Binary Systems: The Case of KIC 8504570

open access: yesGalaxies, 2020
The present work concerns the Asteroseismology of the Kepler-detached eclipsing binary KIC 8504570. Particularly, it focuses on the pulsational behaviour of the oscillating component of this system and the estimation of its physical parameters in order ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Spectroscopic binaries among Hipparcos M giants III. The eccentricity-period diagram and mass-transfer signatures

open access: yes, 2009
This paper is the third one in a series devoted to studying the properties of binaries involving M giants. We use a new set of orbits to construct the first (e-logP) diagram of an extensive sample of M giant binaries, to obtain their mass-function ...

A stochastic Monte Carlo approach to model real star cluster evolution, III. Direct integrations of three- and four-body interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Spherically symmetric equal mass star clusters containing a large amount of primordial binaries are studied using a hybrid method, consisting of a gas dynamical model for single stars and a Monte Carlo treatment for relaxation of binaries and the setup ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Mergers and Obliquities in Stellar Triples

open access: yes, 2014
Many close stellar binaries are accompanied by a far-away star. The "eccentric Kozai-Lidov" (EKL) mechanism can cause dramatic inclination and eccentricity fluctuations, resulting in tidal tightening of inner binaries of triple stars.
