Effect of Fibre and Microsilica Incorporation on High Temperature Resistance of Cementitious Complex Binder

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2011
Complex binder reinforced with microfibre produced from waste catalyst was investigated. Influence of 1, 3 and 5 % of fibre as well as 5 % of microsilica on the mechanical strength of complex binder after thermal treatment at 600, 800 and 1000 °C ...

Hyperscaling breakdown and Ising Spin Glasses: the Binder cumulant

open access: yes, 2017
Among the Renormalization Group Theory scaling rules relating critical exponents, there are hyperscaling rules involving the dimension of the system. It is well known that in Ising models hyperscaling breaks down above the upper critical dimension.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Safety of a feed additive consisting of sepiolite for all animal species (Sepiol S.A. and Tolsa S.A.)

open access: yesEFSA Journal
Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety of sepiolite as a technological feed additive for all animal species. In 2022, the Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal

Corrosion-Induced Damage and Residual Strength of WC-Co,Ni Cemented Carbides: Influence of Microstructure and Corrosion Medium

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The corrosion behavior of cemented carbides with binders of different chemical nature (Co and Ni) and carbides with distinct mean grain size (ultrafine and coarse) was studied. The investigation also included corrosion media (acidic and neutral solutions

New Mixture Additives for Sustainable Bituminous Pavements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In an effort to improve mechanical properties of asphalt concrete, an exploratory research using mixture additives was attempted. Two different types of additives on two material scales were used: asphalt concrete (AC) level and binder level.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Scientific Opinion on the safety and efficacy of Friedland clay (montmorillonite‐illite mixed layer clay) when used as technological additive for all animal species

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2014
Friedland clay is typically composed of the major constituents montmorillonite, illite, quartz and kaolin. Based on a series of studies in chickens for fattening, sows, dairy cows and cattle for fattening, the Panel on Additives and Products or ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
