Different methods to counteract mycotoxin production and its impact on animal health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mycotoxins can cause serious adverse effects on animal health. This may lead to great economic losses in animal husbandry. In this review, the most common methods to counteract mycotoxins are presented, including several pre- and post-harvest strategies ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A Comprehensive Treatise of the High Temperature Specification Parameter |G*|/(1-(1/tanδsinδ)) for Performance Grading of Asphalts

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2004
The term |G*|/(1-(1/tanδ sinδ)) has been suggested as one of the best candidates for the replacement of the Super-pave specification parameter |G*|/sinδ, which has been found to be inadequate in rating polymer-modified binders for high temperature ...

Quantitative modeling and data analysis of SELEX experiments

open access: yes, 2005
SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment) is an experimental procedure that allows extracting, from an initially random pool of DNA, those oligomers with high affinity for a given DNA-binding protein. We address what is a suitable

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hypothesis Testing to Confirm the Influence of Technological Parameters on Poor Quality Production

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2014
This report addresses some chosen statistical methods that could be used to confirm and set up the required functions of technology in foundry companies where parts are cast by the low-wax casting method, whereas these chosen statistical methods are ...

New Mixture Additives for Sustainable Bituminous Pavements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In an effort to improve mechanical properties of asphalt concrete, an exploratory research using mixture additives was attempted. Two different types of additives on two material scales were used: asphalt concrete (AC) level and binder level.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
