Physics‐Constrained Constitutive Learning of Rate‐Limiting Timescales for Efficient Hydrogen‐Based Direct Reduction for Green Steel Making

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conversion‐resolved constitutive framework is developed for the hydrogen‐based direct reduction of iron oxide pellets. Effective reaction and transport timescales are inferred directly from measured trajectories and mapped against operating conditions, pellet architecture, and composition. The analysis reveals how late‐stage transport control emerges

Optimisation of automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis for the estimation of microbial diversity in fynbos soil

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Science, 2010
Automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA) has become a commonly used molecular technique for the study of microbial populations in environmental samples.

Brain‐Computer Interface Training Fosters Perceptual Skills to Detect Errors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Accurate perception of visuomotor errors underpins motor precision and learning, yet conventional behavioral training fails to improve sensitivity to subtle errors. Real‐time EEG‐based brain‐computer interface feedback targeting the error positivity component enhances perceptual learning of small errors.

Fairy: fast approximate coverage for multi-sample metagenomic binning

open access: yesMicrobiome
Background Metagenomic binning, the clustering of assembled contigs that belong to the same genome, is a crucial step for recovering metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs).

Assessing Strengths and Limitations of Magnetoencephalography Source Imaging With Intracerebral EEG

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Simultaneous MEG and stereotactic EEG (SEEG) recordings provide a direct validation framework for MEG source imaging in focal epilepsy. Virtual SEEG signals derived from MEG reconstructions reveal significant agreement with intracranial measures of spike localization, resting‐state oscillations, and functional connectivity, while also identifying ...

Plaseval: a framework for comparing and evaluating plasmid detection tools

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics
Background Plasmids play a major role in the transfer of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes among bacteria via horizontal gene transfer. The identification of plasmids in short-read assemblies is a challenging problem and a very active research area ...

Additive Manufacturing Powder Particle Size Distributions: Comparison of Histogram Binning Methods

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
Additive manufacturing powders require a well-defined particle size distribution (PSD) and spherical morphology to ensure good flowability. To simplify characterisation, powders can be prepared using standard metallurgical techniques followed by optical ...

Nanoscale Optical Inhomogeneities From Compositional Segregation Within Individual GaN‐on‐Si Quantum Wells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work visualizes local variations in luminescence and relates them to nanoscale chemical inhomogeneities in single InxGa1−xN quantum wells. We demonstrate that the elemental segregation is only inherent to quantum wells with high indium content. Density functional theory shows this to be the result of strain‐induced phase stabilization, explaining ...
