Motivated by potential applications to computer storage allocation, we generalize the classical one-dimensional bin packing model to include dynamic arrivals and departures of items over time. Within this setting, we prove close upper and lower bounds on the worst-case performance of the commonly used First Fit packing algorithm, and, using adversary ...

We introduce a new problem that was motivated by a (more complicated) problem arising in a robotized assembly environment. The bin coloring problem is to pack unit size colored items into bins, such that the maximum number of different colors per bin is minimized. Each bin has size B ¿ N.

Cooperation is seen by companies as one of the major means for increasing flexibility and innovating. Business intelligence (BI) platforms are aimed at serving individual companies, and they cannot operate over networks of companies characterized by an organizational, lexical, and semantic heterogeneity.

Conservative bin-to-bin fractional collisions
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2016Particle methods such as direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) and particle-in-cell (PIC) are commonly used to model rarefied kinetic flows for engineering applications because of their ability to efficiently capture non-equilibrium behavior. The primary drawback to these methods relates to the poor convergence properties due to the stochastic nature of
