Recent advances in bio-based polymers and composites: Preface to the BiPoCo 2012 Special Section [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The increasing environmental awareness of the society has become an important factor in recent decades affecting legislation, commerce and industry as well as research and development to a great extent [1-7]. This tendency has also been recognized by the

Sustainable traditional grass cloth fiber dyeing using the Taguchi L16 (4^4) orthogonal design

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
For many centuries, traditional grass cloth has been used as an important raw material for home textiles in China, but its market can be expanded by incorporating color.

Capillary-Assisted Monitoring of Milk Freshness via a Porous Cellulose-Based Label with High pH Sensitivity

open access: yesFoods, 2023
A cellulose-based matrix for monitoring milk freshness (MF) was produced from rice straw particles (RSPs) in a 0.125–0.150 mm that was bis-quaternized to attach bromocresol purple (BP) as a sensor.

Quantitative sustainability assessment of bio-based materials for wind turbine rotor blades [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Over the recent decades biomaterials have been successfully marketed thanks to the common perception that biomaterials and environmental sustainability de facto represent two sides of the same coin.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Zipper-inspired molecular polarity strategy enabling robust adhesive hydroplastics as sustainable plastic substitutes

open access: yesNature Communications
Hydroplastics with water-plasticizing effects and programmability are highly desired yet challenges arise from assembling renewable cellulose into hydroplastics with reversible adhesion and enhanced mechanical performance through water-enhancement ...

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

In Situ Synthesis of a Silver-Containing Superabsorbent Polymer via a Greener Method Based on Carboxymethyl Celluloses

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
An antibacterial superabsorbent polymer (SAP) was synthesized by grafting acrylic acid (AA) onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and mixing with silver particles, with N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide used as a crosslinker and potassium persulfate as an ...
