Geolocation and immersion loggers reveal year‐round residency and facilitate nutrient deposition rate estimation of adult red‐footed boobies in the Chagos Archipelago, tropical Indian Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology
Bio‐logging has revealed much about high‐latitude seabird migratory strategies, but migratory behaviour in tropical species may differ, with implications for understanding nutrient deposition.

Landing force reveals new form of motion-induced sound camouflage in a wild predator

open access: yeseLife
Predator-prey arms races have led to the evolution of finely tuned disguise strategies. While the theoretical benefits of predator camouflage are well established, no study has yet been able to quantify its consequences for hunting success in natural ...

One‐Step Curcumin‐Mediated Multiphoton Lithography for Bioactive 3D Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Curcumin‐mediated multiphoton lithography enables one‐step fabrication of highly architected complex gelatin methacryloyl scaffolds by exploiting curcumin as a multifunctional bioactive photoinitiator. The resulting 3D structures support mesenchymal stem cell adhesion, proliferation, and migration, while exhibiting dual antibacterial activity through ...

Gardiquimod Nanoemulsion Targets Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Lesions Reducing Systemic Toxicity and Parasite Burden

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion delivery of a TLR7 agonist enhances safety and promotes colocalization with Leishmania‐infected macrophages in skin lesions, enabling a ∼2‐log reduction in parasite burden. However, tissue‐level constraints and TLR‐driven regulatory feedback generate a mixed immune response that limits complete parasite clearance.

A future for a common bio-logging language? Data standards and interoperability in the bio-logging world

open access: yes, 2017
Data collected by animal-borne electronic devices follow few norms and standards, in part because they are provided by a large and growing number of device manufacturers and collected for a wide range of purposes. The lack of standard variable names and definitions, file formats and data transfer protocols hinders our ability to document, archive and ...

Electrically Readable Lateral Flow Assay Using Organic Transistors for Diagnostic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Electrolyte‐gated organic field‐effect transistors (EGOFETs) are integrated with lateral flow (LF) paper fluidics to create a reusable, portable, and low‐cost point‐of‐care (PoC) diagnostic test. The devices are validated for Human Immunoglobulin G detection, achieving high sensitivity (0.1 fm), selectivity, and reproducibility with rapid results in 20–

Monolithic 3D‐Integrated All‐Solid Ion‐Gated Carbon Nanotube Transistors With Tunable Ionic Conductance for Multi‐Timescale Reservoir Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐timescale reservoir based on monolithically 3D (M3D)‐integrated CNT solid ion‐gated transistors is demonstrated. Tunable ionic dynamics and pulse‐engineered operation enable linear and symmetric synaptic updates. The M3D‐integrated array achieves robust temporal encoding and accurate classification of moving MNIST sequences, highlighting its ...

Additive Manufacturing of Ordered Polymer Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new 3D printing strategy, Polymerization‐Induced Arrangement of Nanostructures with Order‐tunability (PIANO), enables the formation of ordered nanostructures in polymer materials by enhancing chain mobility during photopolymerization, overcoming the kinetic arrest that leads to disordered morphologies in the conventional Polymerization‐Induced ...

Evolution‐Driven Bio‐Composite Aerogels for Self‐Adaptive Thermal Regulation and Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by nature's multiphase integration, a single chitosan (CTS)–metal chloride (MCl3) coordination precursor is engineered to enable sequential material and functional evolution. The resulting metal ion‐coordinated chitosan (CTS–M) aerogels exhibit humidity‐adaptive thermal insulation for battery safety, while carbonization yields conductive ...

Northern Gannet foraging trip length increases with colony size and decreases with latitude

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
Density-dependent competition for food influences the foraging behaviour and demography of colonial animals, but how this influence varies across a species’ latitudinal range is poorly understood.
