Interplanetary frontiers: terraforming from an invasion science perspective

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
The pursuit of a multi‐planetary existence represents one of humanity's greatest frontiers. If applied justly, it offers an opportunity to extend its civilization's lifespan amid escalating sustainability crises on Earth. One approach increasingly gaining traction is terraforming, a hitherto theoretical ecological and evolutionary experiment revolving ...

Effects of Multiple Mechanical Recycling Loops on the Material Properties of Liquid Silicone Rubber

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical recycling of liquid silicone rubbers was investigated by grinding LSR production waste to small pieces, which are then used as filler in new products with varying percentages of recycled content. Four consecutive reprocessing cycles showed that multiple mechanical recycling loops are possible without significant loss of material performance.

Life Cycle Assessment of Bio-Methane Supply System Based on Natural Gas Infrastructure

open access: yes
Many sites for biogas production in Latvia currently do not have sufficient heat load to provide power production in co-generation mode. The alternative to relatively inefficient power production could be production of bio-methane which is known as one ...

Climate‐smart land management: Greenhouse gas outcomes and social and economic pathways to adoption

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change poses one of the greatest threats to natural and working lands, reducing the resilience of agricultural and forest productivity. Because land management is a leading source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, climate‐smart management practices are being implemented to reduce net emissions while sustaining yields.

PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY OF A BI-FUEL BIO METHANE/GASOLINE VEHICLE

open access: yesRE&PQJ
Compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles have been utilized in fleet applications in the United States for decades. However, vehicles capable of running on both gasoline and CNG are uncommon, with very few applications intending to use bio methane instead of CNG. This paper discusses the conversion of a production vehicle running on gasoline, CNG, and bio

How AI and Digital Technologies Can Enhance Sustainable Livestock Manure Management: An Overview From Treatment to Distribution

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sustainable livestock manure management sits at the nexus of climate, nutrient circularity and water quality. This review explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms are used across four management stages, that is, treatment, storage, valorisation and distribution, and figures out where integration fails to deliver ...

Understanding Interactions Between Sustainable Development Goals Within and Between Policy Programmes: The Case of Kenya's Dairy Sector

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving Agenda 2030 depends on addressing interactions between the sustainable development goals (SDGs). In this paper, we conceptualize SDG interactions as synergies or trade‐offs, incoming or outgoing, and internal or external, and analyze how SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) interacts with other SDGs within and across policy programmes that support ...
