Fungal bioaerosols in biomethanization facilities [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Air & Waste Management Association, 2018
Biomethanization is a new technology used for green-waste valorization where organic waste is biodegraded by microbial communities under anaerobic conditions. The main product of this type of anaerobic digestion is a biogas used as an energy source. Moving and handling organic waste may lead to the emission of high concentrations of bioaerosols.

Understanding variability and complexity of airborne fungal eDNA

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Recent advances in airborne environmental DNA (eDNA) passive sampling methodologies and their successful application in monitoring terrestrial plant and animal biodiversity have sparked growing research interests in extending this technique to fungal community surveys.

Bioaerosol generation by raindrops on soil [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
AbstractAerosolized microorganisms may play an important role in climate change, disease transmission, water and soil contaminants, and geographic migration of microbes. While it is known that bioaerosols are generated when bubbles break on the surface of water containing microbes, it is largely unclear how viable soil-based microbes are transferred to

Oral Health, Periodontitis, and Respiratory Diseases: Biological Pathways

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive update on the potential mechanisms by which poor oral health and periodontitis impact lung health, focusing on pneumonia, COPD, and asthma. ABSTRACT Poor oral hygiene and periodontitis influence lung diseases such as pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), COVID‐19, and asthma.

Characterization and parameters for the effectiveness of a UV‐C device for infection control in dental clinics

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Purpose‐built UV‐C device achieves over 90% disinfection of high‐touch dental clinic surfaces. Abstract Healthcare‐associated infections (HAIs) remain a significant concern in dental settings, especially in light of increasing antimicrobial resistance.

A Randomized Single‐Center Proof of Principle Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness and Safety of a Hydrogel Laser Treatment Patch in Laser Hair Removal

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, Volume 58, Issue 5, Page 395-401, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Laser hair removal (LHR) is a commonly performed aesthetic procedure known to generate a hazardous laser plume composed of toxic chemicals, ultrafine particles, and potentially infectious biological materials. Current mitigation strategies, such as smoke evacuation systems, are costly and often used inconsistently, highlighting the ...

The effect of medical face masks on inhalation risk of bacterial bioaerosols in hospital waste decontamination station

open access: yesScientific Reports
There is insufficient research on bioaerosols in hospital waste decontamination stations. This study aimed to investigate the effect of three-layer and N95 masks in reducing the inhalation risk of bacterial bioaerosols in a waste decontamination station ...

A Miniaturized Electrostatic Precipitator Respirator Effectively Removes Ambient SARS-CoV-2 Bioaerosols

open access: yesViruses, 2022
The inhalation of ambient SARS-CoV-2-containing bioaerosols leads to infection and pandemic airborne transmission in susceptible populations. Filter-based respirators effectively reduce exposure but complicate normal respiration through breathing zone ...

What Is Triggering Ice in Mixed‐Phase Clouds: A Process Analysis With ECHAM6.1‐HAM2.3 Using the Factorial Method

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract Mixed‐phase clouds can be found at temperatures between 0 and −38° ${}^{\circ}$C and consist of supercooled cloud droplets and ice crystals. The phase of mixed‐phase clouds is crucial for the radiation budget, which determines the atmosphere's energy balance.

Analysis of Compounding and Broadband Extinction Properties of Novel Bioaerosols

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Artificially prepared microbial spores have excellent electromagnetic attenuation properties due to their special composition and structure. At present, studies on the optical properties of microbial spores have mainly focused on those with a single band
