Novelty for the flora of Espírito Santo, Brazil: a new species of Ouratea Aubl. (Ochnaceae)

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Here, we describe and illustrate the new species Ouratea oberdanii Fraga & Deccache, which is named after Dr Oberdan José Pereira. This new species is found in the mountainous regions of the evergreen Atlantic Forest in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. Ouratea oberdanii is similar to O. linearis (A.Gray) Sastre & Offroy and O.

Quantifying habitat and biodiversity services and hotspots of Indian forests: A GIS-Based assessment

open access: yesEnvironmental and Sustainability Indicators
The present study attempted to quantify and value of supporting services of India's forest ecosystem. The supporting services comprises by habitat and biodiversity services across India's sixteen forest types was estimated using data for various factors ...

Linking regional and global functional trait data: insights from mammal communities in a fragmented Atlantic Forest landscape

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Accurate functional trait data are essential for understanding ecosystem services and processes in fragmented landscapes. We evaluated whether the global EltonTraits 1.0 database adequately represents the functional structure of mammal communities in forest fragments and restoration sites in a highly fragmented Atlantic Forest landscape.

Habitat loss reshuffles ecological and evolutionary interactions in a seed dispersal network

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
In tropical forests, habitat loss reshapes species composition, favoring generalists and recently emerged lineages while specialists and older evolutionary lineages are lost. However, how changes in species ecological attributes and evolutionary history affect ecological processes is poorly explored.

Partial recovery of large seed arrival following ecological restoration in fragmented tropical rainforests

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Forest restoration success depends crucially on the reinitiation of ecological processes such as seed arrival that drive natural regeneration. We know little about whether, by increasing and diversifying local seed sources to alleviate seed limitation, and attracting animal frugivores to alleviate dispersal limitation, restoration could shift seed ...

Prioritising challenges and actions for freshwater conservation in a tropical biodiversity hotspot

open access: yes
Tropical fresh waters experience one of the highest rates of biodiversity loss globally. Effective tropical freshwater biodiversity conservation requires prioritised and concerted action that is informed by science, but efforts to synthesise the ...

Multitrophic alpha and beta diversity of lake plankton across Canada

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Anthropogenic environmental changes impact freshwater biodiversity globally. While biodiversity assessments in freshwater environments have traditionally focused on individual groups of organisms or trophic levels, considering patterns of ‘multitrophic biodiversity' across the food web provides a more comprehensive view of anthropogenic impacts and ...
