A Multiscale Model of Biofilm as a Senescence-Structured Fluid
We derive a physiologically structured multiscale model for biofilm development. The model has components on two spatial scales, which induce different time scales into the problem.

Maintenance of S. aureus in Co-culture With P. aeruginosa While Growing as Biofilms
Bacterial biofilms are found in various environmental niches and are mostly comprised by two or more bacterial species. One such example, are the mixed species bacterial biofilms found in chronic lung infections of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, which ...

Biofilm Formation and the Role of Efflux Pumps in ESKAPE Pathogens
Nosocomial infections caused by ESKAPE pathogens represent a significant burden to global health. These pathogens may exhibit multidrug resistance (MDR) mechanisms, of which mechanisms such as efflux pumps and biofilm formation are gaining significant ...

Potassium iodide enhances the antimicrobial activity of plasma-activated water
Plasma-activated water (PAW) is a promising disinfection strategy that generates a complex mixture of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS), including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), nitrate (NO3−), and transient oxidants, in an acidic aqueous ...

The pivotal functionality of the amyloid protein TasA in bacillus physiology and fitness [PDF]
Biofilms are complex bacterial communities formed on any virtual surface and composed of cells embedded in an extracellular matrix. Studies on Bacillus subtilis have demonstrated this tissue-like structure comprised of diverse exopolymeric substances ...

Characterisation of dairy strains of Geobacillus stearothermophilus and a genomics insight into its growth and survival during dairy manufacture : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]
The thermophilic bacilli, such as G. stearothermophilus, are an important group of contaminants in the dairy industry. Although these bacilli are generally not pathogenic, their presence in dairy products is an indicator of poor hygiene and high numbers ...
