Rheology of Pseudomonas fluorescens biofilms: from experiments to DPD mesoscopic modelling [PDF]
The presence of bacterial biofilms in clinical and industrial settings is a major issue worldwide. A biofilm is a viscoelastic matrix, composed of bacteria producing a network of Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) to which bacteria crosslink. Modelling of complex biofilms is relevant to provide accurate descriptions and predictions that include ...

Much of what makes life in a microbial biofilm different from life in a free aqueous suspension can be explained by invoking the phenomenon of diffusion. This article discusses the profound influence of the physics of the diffusion process on the chemistry and biology of the biofilm mode of growth.

Antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity and machine learning classification analysis of essential oils from different mediterranean plants against pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a ubiquitous organism and opportunistic pathogen that can cause persistent infections due to its peculiar antibiotic resistance mechanisms and to its ability to adhere and form biofilm.

The new generation nanobomb, termed the stealth nanobomb, is fabricated through self‐assembly using a polymeric carbon monoxide carrier (PLGA(CO)), small molecule near‐infrared‐active agents (2TT‐OC46B), and phospholipid polyethylene glycol (DSPE‐mPEG2000). The stealth nanobomb can circulate in the bloodstream and specifically target pancreatic cancer,

Viable compositional analysis of an eleven species oral polymicrobial biofilm [PDF]
Purpose: Polymicrobial biofilms are abundant in clinical disease, particularly within the oral cavity. Creating complex biofilm models that recapitulate the polymicrobiality of oral disease are important in the development of new chemotherapeutic agents.

A hollow‐structured Fe3O4@AgAu@PDA‐ZnPc nanosphere has been developed, exhibiting controllable catalytic activity and “photothermal‐photodynamic‐Ag+” coupling antibacterial characteristics. When subjected to a rotating magnetic field, these performances are uniquely enhanced by magnetic propulsion, allowing the nanosphere to function as a magnetic ...

Modeling Oral Multispecies Biofilm Recovery After Antibacterial Treatment [PDF]
Recovery of multispecies oral biofilms is investigated following treatment by chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX), iodine-potassium iodide (IPI) and Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) both experimentally and theoretically. Experimentally, biofilms taken from two donors were exposed to the three antibacterial solutions (irrigants) for 10 minutes, respectively.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of heavy-metal transport and fate in an artificial biofilm [PDF]
Unlike planktonic systems, reaction rates in biofilms are often limited by mass transport, which controls the rate of supply of contaminants into the biofilm matrix.
