Intrinsisch ungeordnete Loops innerhalb globulärer Proteindomänen sind der Strukturbiologie lange Zeit entgangen. Söldner et al. zeigen hier, dass trotz dieser Unordnung durch die Bindung sekundärer Messenger in einem Rezeptor für eben diese Botenstoffe eine allosterische Modulation erfolgt.

Activation of a Secondary‐Messenger Receptor via Allosteric Modulation of a Dynamic Conformational Ensemble

Intrinsically disordered loops within globular protein domains have long escaped structural biology. Here, Söldner et al. show that despite this disorder, an allosteric modulation is exerted in a secondary‐messenger receptor by binding of its secondary messenger.
