Toluene Removal Biofilter Modeling

Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association, 2008
On the basis of the model proposed by De Visscher and Van Cleemput for methane oxidation in landfill cover soils, simulation models for biofiltration of toluene-contaminated air were performed for biofilters with or without substrate inhibition and operated at constant or varying airflow rates. The toluene oxidizing activity (V(max)) expressions of the

Moisture in biofilters

Environmental Progress, 1999
AbstractWater availability is a major determinant of pollutant degradation rates by microbes in biofilters. Water content is an indirect index of availability because much water in organic biofilter media is bound too tightly in the particles to be available for microbial metabolism. Available water is primarily in the contacts between particles.

Cassette biofilter aerodynamics

Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, 2012
The hydraulic resistance of packing is studied, intended for use in cassette biofilters. The proposed packing of lavsan monofibers 1 mm thick has minimal hydraulic resistance compared with other known forms of packing used in practice. Values of hydraulic resistance coefficient ζ are obtained for dry packing.

H2S removal from sour water in a combination system of trickling biofilter and biofilter

Environmental Research, 2020
Desulfurization of sour water was investigated in a combination system of trickling biofilter (BTF) and biofilter (BF) filled with ceramic packing materials. A critical elimination capacity (EC) of 251.93 g S m-3 h-1 was obtained for the BTF/BF system during a stepwise increase of sulfide concentration from 10 to 60 g S m-3.

Axial dispersion in biofilters

Biochemical Engineering Journal, 1998
Abstract Biological destruction of toluene vapor from air streams was studied in a laboratory scale biofilter. The packing material (peat) used in the reactor was immobilized with acclimatized bacterial suspension. The original microbial consortium was obtained as an activated sludge suspension from a local waste water treatment plant.

Dynamic simulation of biofilters

Simulation Practice and Theory, 1996
Abstract This paper reports on the use of dynamic simulations for submerged packed biofilters. It sheds light on different aspects of modelling such non-conventional systems (biological reaction scheme, deep filtration, hydrodynamics of the filter) as well as on two numerical approaches for solving the resulting partial differential-algebraic ...
