Toluene Biofiltration Enhanced by Ryegrass

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2013
Toluene biofiltration by microorganisms (an unplanted treatment) and by the combination of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and microorganisms (a planted treatment) was investigated in this study. The results showed that toluene was completely removed by the unplanted and the planted biofilters in less than 0.2 g m⁻³ inlet toluene concentration.

Biofiltration of volatile organic compounds

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2005
The removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from contaminated airstreams has become a major air pollution concern. Improvement of the biofiltration process commonly used for the removal of odorous compounds has led to a better control of key parameters, enabling the application of biofiltration to be extended also to the removal of VOCs. Moreover,

Gas-Phase Biofiltration

2004
Biofiltration is the use of microorganisms, immobilized on a biologically active solid support, to treat chemicals in an airstream. Although the term implies a physical process, the process is biochemical and will not likely be changed in the near future.

BOM removal during biofiltration

Journal AWWA, 1998
Although the biofiltration process may not control the design of a filter bed, results described here can help the engineer better understand the tradeoffs.Pilot‐scale biofiltration experiments were conducted to determine how empty bed contact time (EBCT) and hydraulic loading rate (HLR) affected the removal of biodegradable organic matter (BOM).

North American biofiltration practices

AWWA Water Science, 2019
AbstractBiological filtration (biofiltration) is the operational practice of managing, maintaining, and promoting biological activity on granular media in a filter to enhance the removal of organic and inorganic constituents before treated water is introduced into the distribution system.

Removal of pharmaceuticals and personal care products by two-stage biofiltration for drinking water treatment.

Science of the Total Environment, 2019
Contamination of drinking water with pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) is an issue of health concerns. To effectively control the level of PPCPs in drinking water, a pilot study employing two parallel trains of two-stage biofiltration, i.

Reuse treatment with ozonation, biofiltration, and activated carbon adsorption for total organic carbon control and disinfection byproduct regulation compliance

AWWA Water Science, 2020
The widespread and successful use of coagulation, ozonation, biofiltration, and granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption for the treatment of impaired drinking water sources makes them attractive as an economical approach for direct potable reuse. This
