The Role of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens on Litopenaeus vannamei During the Maturation of a Biofloc System

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
Biofloc technology is a sustainable aquaculture production system which uses microorganisms to maintain water quality and to increase productivity. In this system, probiotics can enhance the positive effects of bioflocs on the cultured species.

Bacterial Communities Associated With Penaeus vannamei Boone, 1931 Surface and Its Rearing Water in Biofloc Culture System

open access: yesAsian Fisheries Science, 2021
The biofloc system is an ecologically sustainable shrimp culture system. The conglomerates of beneficial bacteria, algae and protozoa in pond water serve as a water quality management system and as a feed additive to the shrimps.

Vitamin and mineral supplementation for Macrobrachium rosenbergi in biofloc system

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2018
Biofloc system is an alternative to conventional aquaculture systems as it minimizes effluents, improves water quality, ensures greater biosafety due to minimal water exchanges and also serves as an additional food source for prawn. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of suppression of vitamin and mineral supplements on diets for ...

TILAPIA CULTIVATED IN A LOW-SALINITY BIOFLOC SYSTEM SUPPLEMENTED WITH Chlorella vulgaris AND DIFFERENTS MOLASSES APPLICATION RATES

open access: yesBoletim do Instituto de Pesca, 2019
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of supplementation with Chlorella vulgaris and molasses application rates on water quality, zootechnical performance, proximate composition and health status of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus ...

An Approach for the Assessment of Climate Smart Technologies for Fisheries and Aquaculture in an Afrotropical System

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate variability and environmental stressors increasingly undermine the productivity and stability of fisheries and aquaculture systems across regions. Although technologies, such as recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), integrated aquaculture–agriculture (IAA), Biofloc systems and solar powered hatcheries, have been promoted as climate ...

A Systematic Review of Biofloc Technology and Periphyton in Giant Freshwater Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Biofloc technology and periphyton‐based systems enhance the sustainable production of giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). A PRISMA‐guided review (2005 – 2024) shows that BFT improves survival (75 – 78 %) and feed efficiency, while periphyton supports natural productivity in grow‐out.

Organic carbon source and C/N ratio affect inorganic nitrogen profile in the biofloc-based culture media of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan, 2016
Organic carbon source and C/N ratio play an important role in aquaculture system with biofloc technology application. Nitrogen control by adding carbohydrates to the water to stimulate heterotrophic bacterial growth by converting nitrogen into bacterial ...

Sustainability assessment of FLOCponics compared to stand-alone hydroponic and biofloc systems using emergy synthesis

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2022
FLOCponics is an intensive integrated agri-aquaculture system that combines biofloc-based aquaculture with hydroponics. Since research on FLOCponics is in its early stage of development, and many aspects of this system still need to be explored, the ...
